Marie E. Lubbert, age 88, of Riceville passed away at the Riceville Community Rest Home in Riceville on Tuesday, March 20, 2001. Funeral services were held at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Riceville on Saturday, March 24, 2001 with Rev. Michael Parris officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Riceville, with Lindstrom Funeral Home handling arrangements.

Marie Erma Lubbert was born on August 10, 1912 to Thomas and Barbara Huglin Evans in Winterset, Iowa. She was one of nine children born to this marriage. Marie attended local schools in Gamer and moved with her family to the Riceville area in 1926. She continued her education in Riceville, graduating from Riceville High School in 1931. On February 18, 1935, Marie was united in marriage to Otis Lubbert at St. John's Lutheran Church in Charles City, Iowa. Otis and Marie farmed in the Riceville area until 1950. Otis and Marie then worked at Oliver until their retirement in 1977. Otis passed away on September 28, 1991. In August of 1992 Marie moved to the Riceville Rest Home.

Survivors include her son, Thomas and his wife Erma Lubbert of Lakewood, Col.; two grandchildren, Cynthia Llynn Lubbert of Richmond, Tex. and Timothy Edward Lubbert of Denver, Col. Also surviving are two brothers, Roy Evans of Coronado, Cal., Harold Evans of Phoenix, Ariz.; and one sister, Mrs. Inez Clark of Cedar Falls, Iowa. .

Marie was preceded in death by her husband Otis, three brothers, Frank, Ernest, and Floyd; and two sisters, Ilo and Louise.
