LILLIBRIDGE, William L. 1936 - 2001

IOWA CITY - William L. Lillibridge, 65, Iowa City and formerly of New Hampton, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2001 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City after a lingering illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, Aug. 22 at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Iowa City, with Rev. Wallace Helms officiating.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary (Jemetery in New Hampton.

Visitation was Tuesday, Aug. 21 from 5-8 p.m. at the George L. Gay Funeral Home in Iowa City with a vigil service at 7 p.m.

William L. Lillibridge was born Sept. 29, 1936 in New Hampton to Leverett and Rose (Siegel) Lillibridge. After graduating from New Hampton High School in 1954, he received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of Iowa in 1959 and 1961. His entire career was with the University of Iowa College of Medicine, for many years as Assistant Dean and Executive Director of the Faculty Practice Plan until his retirement in 1998. He was active in collegiate, university and community affairs, having served as a member of the Board of Directors of Johnson County United Way. Mr. Lillibridge was a long-time member of the Association of American Medical Colleges and Life Member of the American Hospital Association. He was an avid traveler, having visited the seven continents, including participation in eight Earthwatch ecological projects.

Survivors include two sisters, June (Melvin) Karnatz, Bentonville, AR and Doris (Lorenz) Helfter, Grand Junction, CO; one niece; six nephews; one grand-niece; four grand-nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Marjorie Lillibridge.

Memorials may be made to the University of Iowa College of Education in care of the University of Iowa Foundation or to St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
