KLASSY, Esther Ann nee LAMON 1929 - 2001

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 27 at First Presbyterian Church, LeRoy, for Esther Ann Lamon, 97, LeRoy native. There will be a private family interment in the LeRoy Cemetery Friday morning. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service.

Esther Ann Lamon was born Aug. 20, 1903, in LeRoy, the oldest of five children of Joe and Libbie Partlow Lamon. She graduated from LeRoy High School in 1920 and then attended Winona Teachers College for two years.

She taught elementary school at Elgin and Claremont, Minn.,, and one year in a LeRoy country school located on the Klassy family farm property two miles east of LeRoy. She also spent two summers working at Yellowstone National Park with some classmates.

She married Frank R. Klassy at an outdoor ceremony in Wildwood Park June 5. 1929. Their entire married life was spent farming in the LeRoy area.

After Frank's death in 1994 she moved to an assisted living, apartment at the Cedars in Austin. In 1995, following a hip fracture, she came to reside at Adams Care Center where she lived until her death July 22, 2001.

She was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was also a member of Eastern Star, History Club, and Friendship Club. She worked with the Wide-a-Wake 4-H Club for several years. Her interests were family, church, traveling, gardening, fishing, knitting and crocheting.

Survivors include three children, Jeanne O'Connell, Scottsdale, Arizona; Don (Mary Lou) of Minnetonka, Minn., and Robert (Marlene), St. Anthony, Minn. Also seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the LeRoy Presbyterian Church, Mayo Foundation, or the donor's choice.

Hindt-Hutchins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
