WATERLOO - Paul J. Karnatz, 93, Waterloo, died Wednesday, April 25, 2001 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo of natural causes.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 28 at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service in Waterloo.

Burial was in the New Hampton Cemetery, New Hampton.

Visitation was Friday, April 27 and an hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.

Paul j. Karnatz was born June 24,1907 in Fredericksburg, the son of Otto J. and Clara (Kottke) Karnatz. He married Leola Russ on Jan. 18, 1936 at Rockford, IL. Paul was employed in the paint department of Black's Department Store and later with Geary Paint Store. He owned and operated Karnatz Paint and Hardware and later was a painter with Schoitz Hospital, retiring in 1985. After his retirement he was employed with the Russell Lamson building until 1993.

Surviving are a daughter, Paula Sloter, Ralston, NE; four grandsons; three great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Leola in 1971.

Memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church, Cedar Valley Hospice, Covenant Medical Center Foundation or Habitat for Humanity.
