HEROLD, Clarence "Winker" 1910 - 2001

Funeral services for Clarence “Winker” Herold were held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 17 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Killeen, TX. The Rev. Charles Davis officiated. Interment was in Killeen City Cemetery. Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Clarence, 90, died Tuesday, March 13, 2001 at a Temple hospital.

Clarence Herold was born August 26, 1910 in Lisbon, ND.

Before Herold retired from the U.S. Army in Ocober 1964, he had served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. His military awards included the National Defense Service Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal with the bronze clasp and five loops, the Army Occupation Medal Gemany, the. Philippines, Liberation Ribbon with a bronze star, the American Defense Service Ribbon and the Carbine Marksmanship Badge.

Herold had also retired from the U.S. Postal Service.

He was a member of Council 4724 of the Knights of Columbus and St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife Alice (Joerger) Herold; two sons: Dennis, Douglas of Austin, TX; one daughter: Barbara Muerer of Katy; four grandchildren; one step-grandchild; and a sister: Viola Benda of Kansas City, MO.

Clarence was preceded in death by an infant son: Gordon; and one sister: Irene Herold.
