JERICO — Merle Hereid, 75, Jerico, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001 at his home of natural causes.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Lawler with Reverend Peter D. Peterson officiating. Verna Orvis will be the organist and accompany those in attendance singing “How Great Thou Art" and “What A Friend We Have In Jesus".

Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Lawler with Joel Knutson, Gary Borlaug, Don Hereid, Jeff Knutson, Jeff Engstrom and Kenny Hines serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be Lawrence Ondra-shek, Harlan Anderson, Harry Sorenson, Raymond Nystel, Donald Knutson, Paul Johnson, Daryl Iverson and Harvey Knutson.

Visitation was from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26 at Conway Funeral Home, New Hampton and also an hour prior to services at the church.

Merle James Hereid was born Jan. 1, 1926 in Jacksonville Township, rural Lawler, the son of Ingvald and Clara (Johnson) Hereid. He attended country school near his home in Jacksonville Township. After his schooling he went to work at White Farm, Charles City. On March 5,1948 he was united in marriage to Adis G. Knutson at Saude Lutheran Church Parsonage. After their marriage the couple farmed in the Saude area and then moved to a farm near Alta Vista in 1968. Merle worked for Sara Lee from 1972 until his retirement in 1987, when the couple moved to Jerico. He loved playing cards and fishing.

Survivors include a son, Denny (Judy) Hereid, Sumner; a daughter, Deanna (Bob (Tex) Hageman, New Hampton; a granddaughter; four grandsons; two great-grandchildren; three step-granddaughters; one step grandson; two brothers, Lowell (Pete) Hereid, Jerico and Paul Hereid, New Hampton and three sisters, Ann Borlaug, New Hampton, Ada Engstrom, Prairie du Chien, WI and Orreann Hereid, Edina, MN.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Adis, in 2000; a grandson, Adam Hereid and three brothers, Harold, in infancy, Carlton and Oliver (Don).
