HAFNER, Charles 1916 - 2001

Charles Hafner of Granger, MN will be held today, Wednesday, August 22, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Granger, MN, with interment in Saetersdal Lutheran Cemetery. Rev. Keith Parker will officiate. Lindstrom Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Charles, 85, died Saturday, August 18 at Regional Health Services of Howard County.

Charles Hafner was born June 13, 1916 in Spring Valley, MN, the son of Karl and Frieda (Frank) Hafner. He went to Etna School through the eighth grade. He helped with farming and later ran the Husky Service Station in Spring Valley.

He married Georgia Pearce and they were later divorced. In 1949 he married Cleone Hovey and they moved to Spokane, WA, where he worked as a head mechanic in a Chevrolet garage. They moved back to Granger in 1954 and Charles opened his own garage business, which he ran until retiring in 1989.

He loved to fish and the community of Granger.

He is survived by one son: Gene of Sterling, IL; two daughters: Carolyn Duncan of Sterling, IL and Charlene Harstad of Rochester, MN; nine grandchildren; 11 greatgrandchildren; three sisters: Helen Olson of Spring Valley, MN, Doris Calvert of Rockford, II and Bernice Johnson of Belvidere, IL; and one brother: Floyd of Spring Valley, MN.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife Leone; his parents; and one sister: Elsie Gill.
