GARDNER, Chester 1922 - 2001

FREDERICKSBURG - Chester Gardner, 79, died at his home in Mission, TX on Sunday, March 18, 2001.

Memorial services will be 10:45 a.m. Saturday, March 31 at the United Methodist Church, Fredericksburg with Pastor J. Richard Earnst officiating. Music will be provided by Ethel Mattke accompanying the congregatipn singing "A-mazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art".

Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg with Military Rites by Am-Vets Post #90, Fredericksburg.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 31 at the church.

Chester was born Feb. 17, 1922 in Fredericksburg, the son of David and Eva (Shurkey) Gardner. He graduated from Fredericksburg High School in 1939. After graduation he served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. While stationed in Seattle, WA, he was united in marriage to Janet Gruenberg on Jan. 21, 1944. After his military service he returned to Fredericksburg where he farmed for a time and later went into trucking, retiring in 1984. He moved to Mission, TX in 1995. He attended the First United Methodist Church, Mission, TX. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards and the Cubs.

Survivors include four children, Terry (Pat) Gardner, New Oxford, PA; Gene Gardner, Kelso, WA; Nancy (Dean) Staton, Cedar Rapids and Denny (Lynn) Gardner, Ocean Park, WA; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Glenn Gardner, Madison, WI and a brother-in-law, Everett Gruenberg, Sumner.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Janet, in 1998 and his parents.
