A memorial service for former New Hampton resident Naomi Cowles will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2 at the United Methodist Church in New Hampton, followed by light refreshments and fellowship in the church hall.

Private family inurnment will take place in the New Hampton Cemetery.

Naomi, 97, died Nov. 14, 2000 in Tampa, FL after a short illness.

Employed by the New Hampton Newspaper from 1936 to 1942, Naomi then became Chickasaw County Auditor. She served in that position until 1948. In 1949, Naomi was appointed secretary to the Board of Education and secretary to the Superintendent for New Hampton Community Schools, a position she held for 21 years.in 1970, she retired and moved to Syracuse, NY to be near her son and family. Naomi returned to New Hampton in 1972 due to the illness of her sister, Attorney Evelyn B. Wilkins and assisted in her law office. Following the death of her sister in 1979, Naomi was employed at the New Hampton Newspapers until her retirement in 1981. Naomi was a resident of Tampa, FL since May 1988. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist cnoir, a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a 50-year member of Home Study Circle, a department of the Women's Federated Club.

Surviving are her son, Arnold  (Bill). .Drape, three grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren.

Conway Funeral Home, New Hampton, is assisting with local arrangements.
