CONRAD, Donald "Snowball" 1924 - 2001

Donald "Snowball" Conrad, 76, of Little Cedar died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001 at his home of natural causes.

Donald was born October 15, 1924 in Little Cedar, Iowa, the son of Henry and Mary (Heiden) Conrad. He attended school and graduated from Little Cedar in 1942. Donald served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1943 to 1946. He made the invasions of Saipan and Iwo Jima in World War II. He served as an amphibian tractor operator. He was awarded a Purple Heart, two Silver Stars, and other medals. After the war he worked for the Mitchell County Highway Department for 30 plus years as a grader operator. He loved all sports and played basketball and baseball for quite a few years. He was an avid gardener.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 16, at the Little Cedar United Methodist Church in Little Cedar with the Rev. Ted Stowers officiating. Inurnment will be at the Liberty Township Cemetery in Little Cedar at a later date. There will be a gathering of friends and family from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday at the church. The Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Donald is survived by one sister-in-law; one brother-in-law; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, and three brothers.
