CHAPIN, Hazel W. nee WAGONER 1907 - 2001

TRIPOLI - Hazel W. Chapin, 93, Tripoli, died Tuesday, May 15, 2001 at the Tripoli Nursing Home in Tripoli from congestive heart failure.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 21 at the Faith United Church of Christ, Tripoli, with Rev. Mike Campbell presiding. Organist was June Buhr, accompanying the congregational hymns, 'The Old Rugged Cross" and "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" and vocalist Roger Goudschaal singing "I Walked Today Where Jesus Walked".

Interment was in Fremont Cemetery, rural Tripoli, with Michael W. Chapin, Wayne C. Poage, Linn A. Wagoner, Michael J. Scott, Matthew J. Warner and Spencer K. Warner as casket bearers.

Flower Committee was Mary Chapin, Mary Roup and Carol Hunemuller.

Visitation was from 4-8 .m. Sunday, May 20 at the ettig Funeral Home in Tripoli and one hour before services at the church on Monday.

Hazel W. Chapin, the daughter of John William and Mary Rosina Wagoner, was born Aug. 19, 1907 in Marshall County, Iowa. She graduated from Waverly High School, Waverly in 1925 and Wartburg College, Waverly, with a B.A. Degree in Education in 1962. Hazel was united in marriage with Kenneth A. Chapin on June 12,1927 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She taught school in Bremer County country schools and Sumner Community School until her retirement.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Tripoli, a former member or the Faith United Church of Christ Choir, the Tripoli Women's Club, Rural Women's Chorus, Tripoli Kitchen Band and was a director for the Good Times Singers. She volunteered for the Hawkeye Valley Area Agency on Aging. Hazel enjoyed music, fishing, traveling and visiting with family and friends.

Surviving are one son, Merlin (Patricia) Chapin, The Colony, TX; two daughters, Betty McGregor, Lakewood, CA, Pat (Ron) Warner, Tripoli; 11 grandchildren; seven greatgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one stepgreat-great-granddaughter.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Kenneth on May 9, 1981; one son, William Chapin in 1953; her parents; one sister, Marjorie Carrick; two brothers, Donald and Alton Wagoner one son-in-law, Bill McGregor.

Memorials may be made to Faith United Churcn of Christ in Tripoli, the Tripoli Public Library or the Tripoli Nursing Home.
