Betty Kozak, 77Funeral services for Betty Kozak were held Sat., Oct. 7, 2000 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Riceville with burial in Calvary Cemetery, Riceville. Rev. Ray Atwood presided. Conway Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Betty Kozak, 77, died Thurs., Oct. 5, at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Osage, Iowa. Betty Jane Kozak was born on July 14, 1923, in Burr Oak Township in Mitchell County, Iowa, the daughter of James A. and Lola (Fehr) Gunsallus. She graduated from Osage High School in 1940. On March 22, 1943, she was united in marriage to John Theodore Kozak at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They renewed their vows on March 24, 1956 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in New Haven, Iowa. Betty and John lived most of their married lives engaged in farming in the Riceville area. Betty and John enjoyed 57 years of marriage. To this union, ten children were bom and raised. Betty enjoyed her family and helping others. She enjoyed playing cards, fishing, sewing and visiting with friends and family. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, John, daughters: M. Ann Aulwes-Allison and husband, Bob, of Ottumwa, Lura and husband, Dan Hockens, Sr., of Mclntire, Ellen and husband, Wes Novak, of Conrad, Iowa; sons: Richard and wife, Lynne, of Riceville, Ron and wife, Marcia, of Mason City, Roger of Farmington, Robert and wife, Cheryl, of Sun Prairie, Wis., Russell and wife, Marianne, of New London, and Rex and wife, Bonnie, of Granville; 23 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Bob and wife, Lucile Gunsallus, of Osage, Dean Gunsallus of Stacyville, and Jimmy and wife, Phyllis Gunsallus, of Osage; four sisters: Evelyn and husband, Bill Rosensweg, of Casper, Wyo., Anua and husband,. Harold Feldtj of St. Ansgar, Iowa, Shirley Fiser of Charles City, Iowa and Ru&y and husband, Larry Fjetland, of Chester, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Randy, a daugh-ter-in-law, Sandy Kozak, a brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Mary Ann Gunsallus, a granddaughter, Jeanine Lynn Hockens, and a grandson at birth.
