Charles W. Hart, 66NORA SPRINGS - Charles Winfield Hart, 66, died Wednesday, Feb. 23 at his apartment in Iowa City. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 1 at 11 a.m. at the Nora Springs United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be in Rock Grove Cemetery, Nora Springs, with military honors conducted by the Nora Springs American Legion. There will be no visitation. Charles Winfield Hart was born April 22, 1933 at the family farm northeast of Nora Springs, the son of Benjamin Winfield and Irene (Bowers) Hart. He attended grade school and junior high school in Nora Springs. The Hart family later moved to Charles City where he graduated from high school. Charles married Thelma Tracy in 1953 in Waterloo. He later married LaVonne Santee in 1958 in Nora Springs. They were divorced in 1978. Charles served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War. He worked for a number of years as manager of various grocery and convenience stores in lowa and Illinois, including New Hampton. He later retired for health reasons and lived at Spencer Towers Apartments in Rock Island, IL and was an active member of their residence council. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church, Rock Island, the American Legion and a volunteer for the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City. He enjoyed visiting with friends, attending Hart family reunions and collecting information for family history. Surviving are two daughters, Linda Sue fromnis first marriage and Melodie Jane (Hart) (Kroeger) Ricketts, Davenport; a son, Lyle Winfield and Irene Hart, Davenport; five grandchildren; a sister, Jane (Clifton) Wiseman; a nephew, Mark A. (Suzan) Lowry and family, Silver Spring, MD. Preceding him in death were three children, Lthel Mae Hart, Scott Charles Hart and Charles Winfield Hart Jr.; his parents; a brother-in-law, Melvin Dwain Lowry. Sheckler Colonial Chapel, Nora Springs, is in charge of arrangements.
