Violet Harris, 85Violet Harris, 85. of .Sutherland died Monday. March 6. 2000 in the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley. Funeral services were held Wednesday. March 8 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland. Iowa with Pastor Leroy Riemer officiating. Burial was in Waterman Cemetery in Sutherland with Warner Funeral Home of Sutherland in charge of arrangements. Violet Alvina Dorothea Brehmer Harris, daughter of Albert and Katherina Schmeckpeper Brehmer. was born September 24, 1914. at | Norfolk. Neb. She attended school through the 8th grade in the Bloomfield. Neb. area prior to her coming to Iowa. She was baptized on September 27, 1914 in Norfolk and was confirmed on March 24, 1929 in Bloomfield. On November 26. 1939 Violet married William C. Harris at the home of William’s parents, northeast of Sutherland. They were the parents of four children. In 1965, they retired from farming and moved into Sutherland, after which time Violet worked for the Sutherland School System as a cook. She was also the janitor for the Bethel Lutheran Church of Sutherland, which she retired from in 1989. She worked as a housekeeper for numerous people in Sutherland and was a cook for the Primghar Care Facility in Primghar, Iowa, which she retired from in 1983. Violet was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church of Sutherland, where over the years, she was a member of the Ladies Aid, a Sunday School teacher. Vacation Bible School teacher, a member of the Altar Committee and church janitor for nearly 23 years. Violet was a resident of several nursing homes since January of 1990, for care of a lingering illness. She was currently a resident of the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley and it was there she passed away. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant son. Dennis Lee; an infant sister, Viola; and three brothers: Raymond, Elmer and Arnold Brehmer. Violet is survived by one daughter and her husband, Marlis and Dennis Magnussen of Primghar, Iowa; two sons: Allen Harris and his wife, Reva of Riceville; Duane Harris of Everly. Iowa; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; as well as other relatives and friends.
