Under the provisions of the law the board of
dental examiners must hold one or more meetings annually for the
examination of applicants for license. An applicant must be in
possession of a diploma from a reputable dental school (reputable
being construed to be a college that maintains a course equal to
that recommended by the National Board of Dental Examiners). No
European diplomas are accepted. The fee for examination is $20.00.
The passing grade is 80 per cent. Practical examination in
operative and prosthetic dentistry; written examination in anatomy,
physiology, chemistry, pathology, therapeutics, materia medical,
anesthesia, histology, hygiene, bacteriology, prosthetic dentistry,
oral surgery, metallurgy, operative dentistry, orthodontia and
jurisprudence.
The fee for interchange licenses is $25.00 and for exchange
certificate is $5.00. Iowa has reciprocity with Vermont, New Jersey,
District of Columbia, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska,
Kansas and Oklahoma.
Upon the payment to the board of the fee of $25.00 a renewal
license is issued to any one who failed to record his license with
the county clerk within one year after its issue.
Duplicate license is issued to anyone whose license has been
lost or destroyed; fee for same is $2.00.
The dental board is under the law governing boards and
commissions which provides that all moneys collected must be turned
into the state treasury each month. A bill for expenses and per
diem must be rendered to the executive council each month.

Members. The physicians of the state board of health.
The secretary receives an annual salary of $300.
Examinations are held every three months.
Correspondence relating to practice of medicine or osteopathy
should be sent to the secretary of this board.
Every person practicing medicine or osteopathy in the state is
required to secure a certificate from this board.
Every physician or osteopath itinerating within the state is
required to produce a special license.
The board is authorized to issue two classes of certificates:
First, to physicians, under sections 2576 and
2582 of the code and second to osteopaths, under
chapter 158, laws Twenty-ninth General Assembly.
There is no provision in the law for issuing permits to
practice midwifery.
