The Myths

A Tale of
Bigamy
By Sandy
My
Great Grandfather was born in NY and served in the Civil War under his real
name. He served in the Southern states. He was married in NY and had a least
one child with that wife. It is still not clear, but it seems they were
divorced. In the 1880 census she was living with her parents and he was living
in a boarding house. He was married a second time under his real name, but
never bothered to divorce this lady. Then he changed his name and married my
Great grandmother in Muscatine Iowa and had five children under his alias. He
was not revered by the family.
