Lowell, Ia., Sept 23 – The unveiling and dedication of the Agency road marker at Lowell will be held Sunday, Sept. 28, at 2 p.m. This road is the oldest road in Iowa, established in 1841. The marker is dedicated to the Lowell community and the descendants of the pioneers who settled here. All descendants of these pioneers are especially invited to attend.
The marker is erected by the Get-Together Women’s Federated club, No. 1539, of Lowell, Ia. The club members will act as hostesses to all who attend. Mrs. Frank Walz, president of the club, will have charge of the following program:
“America” – Assembly singing.
Invocation – Rev. D.E. Killoren, Danville, Ia.
History of Agency Road – Mrs. P.C. Renner.
“Auld Lang Syne” – Male quartet. Elmer Hampton, Carroll Canady, Harry McCoy and Earl Williamson.
Address – Howard Mathews, state representative from Des Moines county.
“America the Beautiful” – Male quartet.
Club Work – Mrs. C.D. Rawhauser, chairman of first district of Iowa Federation of Women’s Club.
Address – H.H. Eyre, president of board of supervisors of Henry county.
Unveiling – Claude Rhum, descendant of Henry county’s first white child.
Presentation speech – P.C. Renner of Lowell, Ia.
Acceptance – Roy Archibald of Danville, Ia.
Closing song, “Iowa” – Assembly.
Concluding remarks and benediction – Rev. D.E. Killoren.
The club members wish to extend their sincere thanks to Fred Brandmeyer for donating the splendid boulder from his farm, east of Lowell; to Frank Walz and Oliver Pero, for granting permission to place it on their land; to the following men: W.T. Parsons, J.T. McNeeley, Ronald McNeeley, Rollie Gill, Frank Walz, and Ray Gerber, for their labor in bringing the boulder to Lowell; to Oliver Pero, P.C. Renner, Harry Kirk, Port Crossley and W.T. Ranck, for help in placing on permanent foundation; to Charles Jackman, for furnishing historical information; to all those who so graciously consented to appear on the program, and all others for their splendid co-operation.
