  1. Township information - This 1883 plat name index was compiled using the current 16 township names rather than the 12 townships existing in 1883 for easier reference and comparison to the 1918 Plat index of names. You will need to determine the 1883 township from the 1883 plat map.

  2. Any entry with Directory information in the right column is taken from the 1883 Directory which was printed with the 1883 map. That entry lists the 1883 township.

  3. Multiple ownership on land is also entered alphabetically under each individual.

  4. Lakes, schools, towns, churches & cemeteries are listed under those headings.

  5. Spelling of names – There is a wide range of spellings throughout the plat.
