Red Cedar - This was a post office that was located in SE/SW Sec.
7-87-25 of Hamilton Township. It was established on Sept. 18, 1876 with
S. W. Lane as the postmaster. The post office was actually located in a
blacksmith shop, that served as a center of an active community
eventually took on the name Saratoga. The stage coach passed through the
Saratoga area for a short time. It dropped off the mail at Red Cedar,
before fording across the Boone River to connect with Tunnel Mill, then
moving on to Homer.
On December 21, 1881, the post office was moved from Red Cedar to Tunnel
Mill, at which time the name was changed to Tunnel. Gilbert Perry,
operator of the mill, served as postmaster. Read the link to New
Saratoga and Saratoga to learn more about this part of our county history.
