Mulberry Center - This small community was located in NW/NW Sec.
8-89-24 of Blairsburg Township. Mr. and Mrs. Phil Morris settled in the
area, and Mrs. Morris immediately sent to her home in Wisconsin for
mulberry trees which she planted around the farmstead. These trees gave
name to the small settlement, and the Morris farm became known as the
Mulberry Farm.
A church was built just north of the farm and was completed at a cost of
just over $600.00. Much of the labor and materials were donated by the
parishoners. The land for the church was donated by J. C. Miller.
Then a school was built just south of the Mulberry Farm. Though the
community never had a post office, Mrs. Morris kept an "inland" post
office just across the county line at a place called Waterman.
Mrs.Morris' son, Asa, carried the mail from Webster Ctiy to Waterman on
horseback.
The Mulberry Center Church has been moved recently into the Wilson
Brewer Park in Webster City. It joins the Brewer Cabin, the Jamison
Cabin, the Harmony Center country school, the Rock Island Depot, and the
first Hamilton County Courthouse in a pioneer village.
