Neese Cemetery Webster Township, Hamilton County, Iowa
Contributed to IAGenWeb by Jackie Frederick, March 2013 jjfrederick@globalccs.net
The Neese Cemetery was founded on land owned by Washington C. Neese, a Methodist preacher in the late 1850s. Mr. Neese traveled the southwest part of Hamilton county preaching and holding baptisms in the Boone River at Bells Mill. (from the History of Hamilton County)
The Neese Cemetery is located in Webster Township at the junction of Bells Mill Road and 320th Street. The cemetery is about 1/8 mile west of this intersection at the end of a well maintained, dead-end farm lane. The cemetery is on a small hill surrounded by rich farm land and native prairie.
Although still an active cemetery; many Hamilton County pioneers are buried here. The earliest burials are those of Barbara and Maneroy J. (her son) Rodenberger buried in Oct 1860. There are several Civil War, WWI and WWII veterans laid to rest in this cemetery.
The cemetery is enclosed in a wire fence and has a driving path in the middle of cemetery. The east side of the driveway is not plotted, although it contains many of the older stones. Cemetery list starts on the east side of the driveway and then walked in north-to-south rows.
The cemetery was walked July 2012 by Jackie Frederick for the Hamilton Heritage Hunters Genealogical Society. This cemetery list was transcribed using the township record for the cemetery. Unmarked graves were identified by using earlier cemetery listings.
