G. A. Wiggins

G. A. Wiggins, who owns and operates a well improved farm of two hundred and eighty acres on section 8, Franklin township, was born in Stephenson county, Illinois, February 4, 1847, a son of Levi Wiggins, a native of Maine. Our subject is a brother of S. W. Wiggins, whose sketch is given on another page of this volume.

G. A. Wiggins acquired his education in the district schools of Green county, Wisconsin, to which place he had removed with his father in 1852. In the year 1881 he came to Greene county, Iowa, purchasing two hundred and eighty acres of land on section 8, Franklin township, which he still owns and cultivates. He has brought the land under a high state of cultivation and has erected fine buildings on the place, his residence being one of the very best in Franklin township. He has met with a desirable measure of prosperity in his farming interests and is well known as one of the leading and enterprising agriculturists of the community.

In 1871 in Green county, Wisconsin, Mr. Wiggins was united in marriage to Miss Louisa J. Taylor, and they have become the parents of eight children, namely: Jennie, who is teaching in Franklin township; Julia J., who is a graduate of the Jefferson high school and is now teaching in Marysville, Washington; Frank A.; Ella Lou, the wife of Harvey Lawton, of Des Moines; Lee; Jessie, wife of C. H. Van Amburg, of North Yakima, Washington; J . M., who is attending the Agricultural College at Ames, Iowa; and Wilma, who is attending school in Jefferson.

In his political views Mr. Wiggins has always been a republican and is promlnent in the local ranks of his party, having held the various township offices. He was reared in the faith of the Presbyterian church, but since coming to this county has affiliated with the Methodist Episcopal denomination. For a quarter of a century he has carried on agricultural pursuits in this county, and the success which he has gained is the merited reward of his diligence, perseverance and capable business management. Both he and his wife are highly esteemed throughout the community, for they have ever displayed those traits of character which in every land and clime win friendship and regard.
