Charles E. WherryOn the 8th of August, 1905, Mr. Wherry was married to Miss Alice Post, a native of Greene county, her birth having occurred at the family home in Bristol township. She is a daughter of Frank and Margaret (Empay) Post, the former a native of Canada and the latter of the United States. They are now residents of Churdan, Iowa, the father here following the mason’s trade. His family numbers five children, all of whom are yet living, namely: Mrs. Addie Towers. whose home is in Greene county; Mrs. Nellie Towers, living in Baraboo, Wisconsin; James H., who resides in Carroll, Iowa; C. H., who is living in Churdan: and Mrs. Wherry. In his political views Mr. Wherry is a stalwart republican and while never aggressively partisan is an unfaltering champion of the principles in which he believes. He served as village recorder of Churdan for five years and at -the present writing, in 1907, is postmaster, having been appointed to the office on the 3d of July, 1905, by Theodore Roosevelt. He belongs to the Knights of Pythias fraternity and his wife holds membership in the Presbyterian church. In addition to the building occupied by his newspaper plant he also owns a nice residence in Churdan, which is noted for its warm hearted hospitality, freely accorded to many friends. |
