War Heroes Buried. |
On Friday evening, August
5th, the bodies of two soldier boys, Corporal Keck and Corporal Donald
E. Porter, members of Company C, of Creston, who were killed in battle
on the fields of France, July 3, 1919, were received by their families
in Creston. A double funeral was held Sunday afternoon at 2:30, in
McKinley park, Creston, in the presence of a large concourse of friends
and relatives of both families, and the bodies were laid to rest in
Graceland cemetery with full military honors. Donald E. Porter was the
eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Porter, of Creston. A large
number of relatives were present at the funeral of the young man. Those
attending from Corning and vicinity were: Mr. and Mrs. J.F. Frazier,
grandparents of Donald Porter; A.W. Frazier and family, J.B. Montgomery
and family; Francis Lamboley and family, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Lowery, Mr.
and Mrs. Charles Bixler, Mr. and Mrs. Ilo Hinton, all of whom are
uncles, and aunts and cousins of the deceased soldier. |
