Kate wrote: "I got this photo from a relative, Sadie Woods (deceased 1982). Jule Woods (later Finney), Sadie's sister, appears to be the girl in the center front row. The school was possibly a boarding school, or even a stenography school, since Jule worked as a stenographer in Mason City in the early 1900's. The only annotation on the photo was written in ink on the back: "Jule in Ackley School". The date Feb 22, 18(99?) was penciled in.
Jule and Sadie Woods were born in Minnesota. Their father, Omar E. Woods, was a railroad engineer in Iowa. He was killed in a train crash in 1898. Their mother was Julia (Travers) Woods. After Omar died, the family stayed in Iowa for a while, before moving back to Minnesota. At least one daughter married and lived in Iowa."
Identification of the other girls in the photo is needed. Also, a positive ID of the Ackley school. If you have any information please email the Franklin co. Coordinator.
