L.P.A. TEA A BUG SUCCESS
Another very successful L.P.A. Tea was given
last Friday at the home of Dr. and Mrs. J. D. Parker. The exhibits
of copper, brass and pewter were many and beautiful. There were
trays from Bombay, Kandy, Hyderabad and Istanbul; chumbas from
Calcutta, Secunderabad and Bombay; water urn from Turkey; modern
vases from this country as well as many of Oriental origin; early
colonial candlesticks, together with those made in India and China;
early American kettles were exhibited at the side of those from
Turkey. The pewter display ranged from the modern ware to pieces
about 125 years old; jardinières were exhibited in the three wares.
One exhibit of especial local interest was an
ash tray made of munitions shells of various sizes by Warren
Johnson. It was sent to his mother, Mrs. Ina Johnson, who loaned it.
The talks on copper by Mrs. Parker, on brass by
Mrs. Collett, on pewter by Mrs. V. T. Smith, were both interesting
and instructive.
Brass and copper were featured in the
decorations of the tea table which was presided over by Mrs. A. J.
Fox and Mrs. A. D. Goby.
there were at least 20 guests from out of town,
many of whom were daughters of early members of the Association.
