Red Cross Quota Completed This Month
This Month completes a quota of Red Cross
surgical dressing that has been worked on since November. The first
shipment went out on March 4, 1943, and the total dressing made at
Fayette and West Union is 229,800 dressings. this includes 64,000
surgical sponges,, 4x8, 135,000 sponges, 4x4, and 30,000 sponges,
2x2. This number represents a total of about 10,000 hours given by
approximately 75 women. Many have only a few hours' credit, others
have several hundred.
Thus far in 1944 North Fayette county has
shipped out 69 sleeveless sweaters, 41 helmets, 25 watch caps, 27
mufflers, 13 pairs of gloves, 1 turtleneck sweaters, 297 filled kit
bags and 77 filled housewives for the armed forces.
For hospital work 4 afghans, 45 lap robes, 95
men's cotton pajamas, 70 bathrobes, 87 pair bedroom slippers, 20
bedside bags and 87 bed pan covers have been shipped and cleaning up
from an old War Relief quota, 3 quilts, 1 baby quilt, 1 child's
sweater, 14 blouses and 1 child's pajamas have been shipped.
A quota of kit bags is being completed and
there is a new quota oon hand to be made. There is also some yarn
and a new shipment of outing for hospital pajamas to be made up.

Swartz for knitting.

December 21, 1944 Personals
Members of the Shakespeare club met
at the home of Mrs. V. T. Smith Dec. 14 for a Christmas tea. Mrs.
John Dorman gave an excellent review of "Yankee From Olympus" by
Catherine Bowen. After the business meeting tea was served by Mrs.
Fox and Miss Meyer. An offering of $5.45 was taken for the Iowa
Children's Home Society, and gifts were contributed to be sent to
Russian war orphans. The next meeting will be with Mrs. E. F.
Coffman, Jan 4. Mrs. R. A. Swartz will review "Blessed Are the Meek"
by Zofia Kosak.
