BIRTHDAY BANQUET
The Birthday banquet Wednesday evening at the
church was well attended and a very pleasant evening enjoyed. First
prize for the best decorated table was awarded Mesdames F. C. Bacon
and S. W. Rubyor, who had the months of January, February and March.
The judges were Mrs. Henry Hettler, Miss Margaret Holmes and Donald
Palmer. Other prizes were given as follows: Mrs. Wm. Stevens of
Oelwein for coming the greatest distance, Mr. and Mrs. F. D. Turner
of Hawkeye for having the largest number of their family present.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Palmer whose combined ages made them the
youngest couple present. The following program was much enjoyed: It
was varied to represent each season of the year. The two hymns sung
were harvest songs, "Call the Reapers" and "Bringing in the
Sheaves;" piano solo, Spring Song, Mrs. Walter butts; The Easter
Story, Miss Rench; clarinet solo, "I Love You Truly," Loraine Kitch;
Patriotic reading, Eloise Turner; quartet, "Stars of the Summer,"
Mesdames F. C. Bacon, R. F. Grant, S. W. Rubyor, and Leslie Fay;
reading, The Vagabond Song, Marjorie Severson; piano solo, Miss
Wright; vocal solo, "Still as the Night," Miss O. Banion.
Those from away who attended the Birthday
dinner were Mr. and Mrs. Delsing, Mr and Mrs. Ed Stewart, Miss
Margaret Holmes, all of Maynard, Dr. and Mrs. Parker, Mr. and Mrs.
Austin Fox, and Mrs. Hettler all of Fayette, Mr. and Mrs. F. D.
Tuner and children, and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Kitch of Hawkeye.
Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Fox of Fayette and Mrs.
Clint Shafter and Mrs. Alonzo Hancock were Saturday visitors of Mrs.
Lib Sprague, who is ill.
