DRUM CORPS WILL BE HERE NEXT WEEK
Robt Peters has promised to arrange for the
appearance of Shaffer’s Martial Band on Saturday afternoon of
homecoming as he feels that many of the old timers will appreciate
hearing the band once more. He says the boys will gladly respond to
the invitation as most of them once lived in this community.
Since J. S. Shaffer’s death they have been
assisted by Ed Hayes of Volga City, who plays the snare drum.
Other members are Marian Baldwin, Hazelton,
fife, Robt. Peters, fife, M. A. Klingman, Wadena, bass drum, and Roy
F. DeSart, Mason City, snare drum. Others may be added for the the
occasion is possible.
Mr. Peters says that he and Mr. Shaffer
started out together in drum corps work sixty years ago and in all
that time have had many others come in with them and go agan but the
two always stuck together. His hardest job was at Mr. Shaffer’s
funeral where the corps played Mr. Shaffer’s favorite selection as
had been request.
