Wadena (Last Week's Letter)
On Sunday, July 28th, 1912, a very
pleasant social gathering was enjoyed at the home of Mr. And Mrs.
Robert Ernst near town. The occasion was a reunion of the children
of Mr. And Mrs. A. W. Peters of whom all are living namely, Mrs. L.
L. Ernst of Illyria, R. H. Peters of Illyria, Miss Nettie Peters of
Illyria, Mrs. Wm. Gehring of Jennings, Okla., Mrs. M. A. Klingman of
Wadena, Wm. A. Peters of Volga and W. L. Peters of Illyria. Mr. And
Mrs. A. W. Peters celebrated their golden wedding 1903, having at
this writing journeyed together on life’s sea nearly fifty-nine
years and are aged respectively, eighty and seventy-five years and
are still active. During their many years of married life Death has
not entered the home to take from them one of their loved ones but
all are living the oldest being 59 and the youngest 36 years of age.
A picnic dinner was served under the shade of the apple trees and a
merry crowd of forty persons did ample justice to the bounteous
array of tempting victuals. Four generations were present, the
oldest of whom has passed the four score mark and the youngest only
four months of age. The afternoon was spent in the enjoyment of
vocal and instrumental music on the piano and violin and social chat
and as the slowly setting sun in the western sky indicated the time
to go to our homes had come we said goodbye, each one hoping that we
would again have the opportunity of meeting in the same way.
