On June 13th, 2002 16 graves were ‘divined’ by Steve Story. A 16’ by 8’
slap of cement was poured to capture 6 of the gravesites with only 4
stone pieces.

Brief History of Peter's Cemetery
At the top of the hill between the Wilson
Patterson home and the Ray Gilbert home is an old cemetery. It was
purchased by Sovine Peters about 100 years ago. It is one-half acre,
and is registered in West Union as the Peters cemetery. At one time
there were 16 graves, but just the tombstone of Miss Peter’s baby
brother Riley (who died when he was two years old) can be found today.
William Peters in the fifth generation of the Peters family in Brainard.
This cemetery is not mowed so wildflowers
decorate it. Conservationists tell us that rural cemeteries are one
place the native prairie can be seen. Tex Heyer, abstractor, explained
the legal description and how it is handled in property transfers.
Likely other family plots may be handled in the same way. This one
likely began as a Peters family plot in the 1860s. Most burials were in
the 1870s but the last was in the 1930s or 1940s. (unknown author and
date).
