Dodgeville	First son of Jacob and Mary Kline; was born in Luzerne Co., Penn., in 1836; came to Iowa in 1844; lost his left arm by a threshing machine in 1850; after leaving school, he spent one year as a traveling daguerrean artist; subsequently, he engaged in farming; in 1858, he started for the mountains, returned after a short absence; in 1859, he with four others went to the mountains, engaged in exploring, cattle dealing, etc.; in 1863, he held the position of policeman in the city of Denver, Colo.; afterward was engaged in transportation and grocery business; he has crossed the plains altogether eight times; is now settled in good circumstances at Dodgeville, engaged in mercantile, hotel and farming business. In Feb. 1864, he married Lavina Jackson; has had five children, all now living. Mr. K. is a gentleman of culture and refinement.
