Sandy in Cold, sunny Cheyenne The following excerpts were taken from the William J. Miller Collection of genealogical records of families in the Leeds & Grenville Co. area of eastern Ontario. It has been filmed by the Archives of Ontario and the LDS Family History Library. Samuel Slack, Jr. and family, as well as our family's Laura (Parish) and Joseph Slack, were born in Leeds Co., Ontario, Canada and came with several other Leeds Co. families to Lee Co., Iowa in 1849. Laura & Joseph settled in Garden Grove in 1852. This has been copied as transcribed and typed for the collection. Spelling left as transcribed. Sandy Wunder, Cheyenne, Wyoming Dec. 24, 2002 NOTE: Samuel Slack was born on August 17, 1827 near Lake Charleston, Ontario, Canada. On August 17, 1846 he married Louisa Reed in Morristown, New York, The family moved to Decatur County, Iowa. They arrived on October 13, 1852 and built a cabin on November 16th of the same year. They lived in Decatur County and had nine survive to adulthood. The family moved to Reno County, Kansas in April of 1873. The family was one of the first two families settling in Troy Township of Reno County. Both Samuel and Louisa lived a full and prosperous life. Samuel Slack was the county surveyor for Reno County, Kansas. He died on May 28, 1909, Hutchinson, Reno County, Kansas. Louisa (Reed) Slack was born in Ontario, Canada, on June 27, 1827, and died in Hutchinson, Kansas, on February 4, 1924. They were interred at Hutchinson Eastside Cemetery, Hutchinson, Kansas.
