History: The land for the Dale Cemetery was donated
by James Martin Dale. The oldest marked grave in the cemetery is dated
March 10, 1856 and belongs to Barbra Dale, the second wife of James
Martin Dale. She was aged 29y & 8m. She died just three weeks after they
arrived in Decatur County to settle in Section 11 from Hamilton County,
Indiana. Barbra died just 5 days after her son, James Henry Dale was
born. The stones appear to be running crooked because the road does not run straight north and south. Nancee (McMurtrey) Seifert noted in April of 2010 that the cemetery is in very poor condition with many of the gravestones knocked over. An * means no tombstone, but is a known burial. |
