The Pioneer School, built in 1889, was located on the Leon-Lineville Road approximately 15 miles northeast of Lamoni in Morgan Township. Vicki (McVicker) Ross, a 1950 Graceland Graduate, donated the school house. The school was moved to the Iowa Welcome Center, two miles east of Lamoni and west off of exit 4, Interstate-80. The schoolhouse was transported in three pieces since the roof had to be removed for the trip. It was then restored by Orman Broomer, a Graceland graduate of the Class of 1953, and his crew in 2007. Vicki Ross financed the restoration project. |
