Leon Reporter, Leon, Iowa Thursday, September 28, l893 We had a very fine rain and business is good. REV. DUNN goes to Derby for the next year. Our school is running nicely and all are pleased. PROF. J.M. HOWELL was here last week making votes. MR. HOWELL made a good impression here even on our Republican friends. They say he is a fine looking gentleman, and looks as though he would make a good Superintendent. The same was said of our candidate for Sheriff, J.C. KESHLEAR. We think so too. Our editor makes our paper better each issue, and is not dead yet, and is second to none in the county. Long live the Grand River News and its worthy editor. CHARLEY SIPHERD has returned to Lincoln, Neb., where he has a position in a grocery store. CHARLEY is a fine young man and will hold his position. One of our best young ladies was sad to see him go. Never mind Miss, he will return. LYMAN BRENER has two cousins visiting him. Our young folks report a splendid time at the BINNING home one night last week. The BINNINGS know how to entertain company. The HARDER boys finished PETE BRENAMAN's barn. Look at it and where to get your work done. CURTIS BOYD and his bran (sic) new wife have gone to house keeping on their farm which MR. BOYD had ready. Do likewise you old sour bachelors! Our enterprising shippers, GREENLAND and GILREATH, were on deck last week giving money right and left to our granger brothers. Many of our young folks were out riding sunday evening, as there was no dust it was very pleasant out. Look out for Jack Frost one of these nights. More stock is shipped from Grand River than any other town in the county. JOE PENCE and sister were in town trading with our merchants Saturday. JOE is a welcome customer and a lively youth who knows where to go to trade, as Grand River is the town for business. Copied by Nancee (McMurtrey) Seifert August 20, 2003 |
