Fulton purchased a half interest in the Lew Gillham grocery store and became a member of the firm. The firm was then Gillham & Fulton. F.Y. Fong, who operated the laundry in this city, had succeeded in renting a suitable building at Lamoni and would establish a branch laundry there at once. The new laundry would be in charge of Fong Chuen, who had assisted F.Y. Fong at times in operating the laundry here in Leon. Doctors to Meet Here The Decatur County Medical Society would meet in Leon at the city library building. The sessions would be held in the basement of the library building. It was expected to be one of the most successful sessions that the organization had yet held. C.M. Keller, of this city, who had recently purchased the William Biggs farm south of Leon on the Leon and Davis City road, was improving the farm. He was having better fence put up and all the buildings were to be painted right away. Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Lamoree were the parents of a son born October 21. Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Tompkins were the parents of a daughter born October 22. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Brooks were the parents of a son born October 22. Mrs. Brooks was the former Miss Laura Landis. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Pickering were the parents of a son born Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Chastain were the parents of a daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Mark Owens were the parents of a son. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Scales of near Leon, were the parents of a daughter. Mr. and Mrs. John Baker were the parents of a son. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Robinson were the parents of a son. Leon Journal-Reporter Leon, Decatur County, Iowa November 18, 2015, Page 4 Twice Told Tales - 100 Years Ago November 18, 1915 Big Ranch Owner Visited in Leon William Higby and Mrs. Higby had been visiting at the John Brazelton home in Garden Grove. While visiting visiting in Leon, Mr. Higby was a guest at the Amos Chambers home. Mr. Higby owned a ranch of 16,000 acres near Greenland, CO. E.L. Hutchison, the north side grocer had purchased the Robert Bowsher property in west Leon and was to get possession of the place December 1. It was a fine property and would make a nice modern home. Van Wert to Have Lights The city of Van Wert was to have electric lights for the first time. O.F. Eaton, who was granted a franchise some time ago, completed the construction of his system ready to connect with the line of the Leon Electric Company, from whose power house he would secure current to operate his Van Wert system. Dr. Paul Stookey, son of Postmaster and Mrs. Millard F. Stookey, of this city, had located at Lamoni for the practice of his profession. His office rooms over the Johnson jewelry store were being properly equipped. Dr. Stookey had much practice in the medical field and was capable of handling any problems of sickness that may have arose. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Burgin were the parents of a son. Mr. and Mrs. T.J. Thornton were the parents of a daughter, born October 31. Marriage Licenses - Walter F. Overholtzer and Gladys Boles, Loren Booth and Gertrude Nelson, Oliver W. Leon Journal-Reporter Leon, Decatur County, Iowa November 25, 2015, Page 4 Twice Told Tales - 100 Years Ago November 25, 1915 Buys George Gray Restaurant Claude Moore and his brother-in-law, Ed Harris, bought the George Gray restaurant in the Harmon building south of the post office and were given immediate possession. They were making improvements in the restaurant. Fred Epperly’s barber shop in the basement under the G.B. Price clothing store was being re-modeled and modernized. He was also making many improvements on his equipment. The Decatur County Mutual Telephone Company closed a deal for the purchase of the Vogt lots east of the J.A. Caster store and would soon erect modern building in which the switch board and offices of the company would be located. The Board of Supervisors had arranged for the purchase of land of Fletch Grove and J.E. Lentz to be used in making changes in the Woodland road that would enable them to avoid some ditches and big bridge expenses. Marriage Licenses - J. Lee Dinsmore and Lottie Cain; William J. Cromier and Daisy H. Hall; Harry D. Enos and Croy Krouch; Cyrus Holybee and Frances W. Strange and Barden Parmean and Hazel V. Coffin.
