"Leon Quarantined Against Garden Grove"

At a meeting of the Leon Board of Health, Tuesday evening, it was ordered that quarantine regulations be enforced against the town of Garden Grove for a period of forty days on account of the prevalence of smallpox in that city, a proclamation by Mayor Woodard containing the notice being published in this issue. This step was taken on the advice of Dr. J.A. McKlveen, member of the State Board of Health, who was here Tuesday, it being stated the Garden Grove authorities have failed and refused to quarantine the numerous cases of smallpox in Garden Grove, the local physicians insisting it is not smallpox, but chickenpox. Yet Leon's only case of smallpox, MR. SANFORD REED, was contracted from exposure to one of the cases of alleged chickenpox at Garden Grove. In view of the increase of smallpox all over the State, strict measures are justified to prevent the spread of the disease.
