The Davis City Advance, Davis City, Iowa Bloomington, Neb., Nov. 20, '00. Friend George and family: -- I suppose you think I have forgotten all my old friends, but you are mistaken, I often think of them and the pleasant times I have had with them; but the best of friends must part. We are all well, and have had plenty of work to keep us busy. We built l/2 mile of new fence and repaired l/2 mile. Painted our barn which is 30x50 with basement, covered with iron, sides and roof. It holds l6 head of horses and l4 head of cows. When we get our house built we will have one of the best 200-acre farms in this place. In my pasture I have running water, and a nice pond of about one acre, stocked with fish. About 6 acres of alfalfa, that is hay which makes about 5 tons per acre, and the seed is worth 7 dollars per bushel. One man here threshed 20 acres; it made 85 bushel. Another l l/4 acres that made l8 bushels, worth $116. This is pretty well on 25 dollar land. I will sow l0 to 20 acres more in the spring. It costs $3.00 per acre for seed. We will plant 35 acres of corn, l5 acres of cane, l0 acres of oats. I have l0 acres of fall wheat and 6 acres of Rye growing, and looks fine. We will plant 5 acres of potatoes, 2 acres of cabbage and 5 acres of kaffir corn, l acre of pop corn and 6 acres of sweet corn. It has been cool here for several days. It is drizzling now; the fall has been very nice. It has only rained once since we came here, that was in October. No snow yet. Alfalfa as green as spring. We have good schools here -- nine teachers. Five church buildings; the M.E., Presbyterian, Baptist, Episcopal and Catholic. We have fine water and the country is generally healthy and not so cold as with you. Well, George, I never expect to return to Davis City to live as this country suits me; but I hope to return and meet my old friends. come out west and see us. Mrs. Kling sends her love to your wife. DAVID ROBISON has moved to Blockley where he will do blacksmithing. MISSES ROSA and JESSIE FRAKES, of near Davis City, attended Sabbath School at New Salem Sunday. B.F. ROBISON and family spent Sunday at WILLIE MOORE's. MISS ELSIE DALE expects to start to Kansas soon and will spend the winter with her sister, MRS. GRAVES. FRANK STILL, of Missouri, is working for JAMES COZAD. WM. MOORE was a Leon caller last Friday. ALBERT WOOLSEY and IDA DALE called on DAVE MCCUTCHAN and CLAUD LEONARD Sunday. EMMET STILL, of Hard Scrabble, was seen in these parts one day the past week. MISS MAY GORE is assisting MRS. DRAKE this week. MISS MARY MCDANIEL was the guest of MISS INEZ HAMILTON, of Blockley, Tuesday night. N.A. LILLIE is reported on the sick list. ALVIN STILL spent Sunday with his parents. A good time is reported at JACK HALL's Thursday night. We understand that MESSRS. JACK and CHARLEY HALL, together with their families, expect to start to Oklahoma next week. ALVIN STILL is husking corn for JOHN MCDANIEL. JASPER DALE came in from Oklahoma last week and is visiting friends near Spring Valley. EVERETT HAMILTON and MISS ALTA DALE, of Spring Valley, spent Sunday afternoon with BESS HALL. MISS MARY MCDANIEL returned Tuesday from a two weeks' stay in Davis City. HENRY DURHAM, of Woodland, called at GEORGE JENNINGS Sunday. JOHN MCDANIEL is confined to his room with an attack of malaria fever. MISS ROSA FRAKES is assisting MRS. H.E. HORNEY with her household duties this week. Several of our people partook of turkey at the home of N.A. LILLIE, Thanksgiving. WM. ROBISON called on his son at Blockley Friday. MRS. I.T. EVANS returned to her home at Davis City Tuesday after visiting at the home of A.C. DALE. GEORGE MOORE and family Sundayed at JAMES COZAD's. DAVID ROBISON, of Blockley, was calling on his many friends in these parts Saturday evening. G.W. MOORE and wife spent Sunday at JAMES COZAD's.
