The Davis City Advance, Davis City, Iowa Thursday, December 7, l899 H. FERGUSON, wife and granddaughters, HAZEL and CECIL SUTHERLIN, spent Thanksgiving day with friends at Lamoni. S.A. FERGUSON is visiting relatives in Nebraska at present. DELL FERGUSON writes from Hope, Idaho, that he was out hunting and came in contact with a mountain lion. He said the lion made faces and spit at him so he concluded discretion was the better part of valor, and made tracks for home. Toney scholars had a half holiday Thanksgiving, while the teacher went home and he and his wife ate turkey at J.C. KESHLEAR's. MRS. CHET PULLEN and family and MRS. S. MCCLURE spent Thursday at LEE PULLEN's. HILLARY OSBORN visited the Toney School on Friday. Last Thursday morning as the teacher of the Toney School entered the room, the pupils thought that he had received a medal as the champion gold bug, but on inspection it proved to be a full-blown dandelion blossom which he had found and was wearing for a bouquet. Next. MRS. MATE SEVERE died at her home in King City, Mo. from cancer of the face, Wednesday morning. The remains will be brought to this city for burial this afternoon. The procession will go directly from the train to the cemetery, where a short service will be held. The Ladies of the M.E. Church will have on sale various useful and fancy articles at the G.A.R. Hall Saturday afternoon and evening, Dec. l6. Those who have been solicited and any others who care to donate will please send articles to the Parsonage by Wednesday, Dec. l3. R.D.R. TOPLIFF was recently appointed Marshall of Davis City and we hope every order-loving citizen will sustain him in maintaining order and quiet in this town. But for the criticism of the officials and the Advance by men who profess to want good order, much of the recent disturbance would never have occurred. When men or boys disturb the peace, they are the parties to criticize -- not the parties who try to supress the disturbance. Chastain Scrapbook CHRISTMAS DINNERS.--W. H. Albaugh and family, of Decatur, spent the day with 'Squire Layton. Mrs. Orr Sang, of Chicago, ate holiday turkey in Leon. L. P. Sigler attended a family reunion at Dr. Sigler's in Garden Grove. Mr. and Mrs Swearingen visited the boy and enjoyed the hospitality of Judge Miles in Mercer County, Mo. Charley Knapp and family put in the day riding down hill and devouring turkey with their jolly friends on Tick Ridge. Sam Coover and wife celebrated with G. R. Bathe at Tuskeego. Big dinner. Mr. and Mrs. M. Corbett were partakers of the Lunbeck House hospitality. The entire Gates family rallied around the festal board at Uncle Sammy's in Center Township. John W. Leeper, E. W.
