The Independent Patriot Lamoni, Iowa December 20, 1894 Drs. LAYTON, VAN WERDEN, and BOWMAN amputated the left arm of Uncle George GAMMON Monday morning an inch below the shoulder joint. Mr. GAMMON has been a terrible sufferer for several years from a cancer on his arm just above the elbow, and his condition had become so precarious that it was necessary to amputate the arm in hopes of saving his life. The Independent Patriot Lamoni, Iowa December 20, 1894 DAVIS CITY, IOWA A glorious rain was that of Saturday last, so many were needing rain for cisterns that it was welcomed. Since the rain nice spring weather has come. The wedding referred to in our last report came off at Leon on Tuesday evening of last week. A. E. DORN cashier of our Bank here was married to Miss Nellie VARGA at the home of her father S. VARGA; they went directly to housekeeping in S. R. FRAZIER's house near J. M. ARNOLD's. May joy attend them. Another wedding is also soon to be announced so says Dame Rumor. Anna RADNICH attended the DORN-VARGA wedding at Leon last week, as bridesmaid. Bert ROBERTSON returned home last Saturday from Indianola, Iowa, where he is attending school, his chum from there accompanied him, they will stay during the Holidays. Old Mrs. JEFFRIES is gradually growing weaker; no hopes are entertained of her recovering. Card received from Uncle Roy BISSELL states aunt Lucinda is in much more hopeful condition. The bloat is subsiding having been lanced in ten places. Joe WARNER went to Leon last Saturday. Elder Joseph SNIVELY is holding a series of meetings in the saints chapel here, he began meetings last Friday evening. Sunday evening the largest audience greeted him that has been in the church for a long time and an excellent interest was manifested throughout the meeting thus far, he will continue during the week if the interest warranted it. Fred HORTON is at home for the holidays, he will continue his study of dentistry at Kansas City after his visit. Howard BENNET living north of town lost a little child on Sunday last cannot give particulars. Cora ARNOLD is at home to spend the holiday. She is teaching one of the departments in the school at Ridgeway, Missouri. John ALLEN and his mother of the Junction, were visiting friends in this city last Tuesday. H. EWING did business in Lamoni last Saturday. Rev. MITCHEL returned home last Wednesday from holding a series of meetings in the M. E. Church at Lamoni. R. E. The Independent Patriot Lamoni, Iowa December 20, 1894 LEON IOWA Miss Alta GAYLORD of Lamoni, Iowa, spent Wednesday and Thursday in Leon with her friend Miss Cora BROWN and started to Shenandoah Friday to spend the holidays with old friends. Mr. and Mrs. GOODENOUGH of Knoxville, Iowa, returned home Thursday after a prolonged visit with friends and relatives in Iowa and Missouri. J. H. POST called on relatives in Davis City Wednesday. The Baptists are making arrangements to serve a Christmas dinner in the hall. H. E. BROWN returned to his home in Wray, Colorado, the first of the week, after a visit with his parents of this city. One of Lamoni's agents was in Leon last week acting as agent for a patent right. Owing to circumstances did not represent himself very largely. Mr. Billie BOWMAN of this place returned from King City, Missouri, Thursday, from a ten days visit. Mr. Elmer BROWN and his sister Cora visited friends in Van Wert the latter part of last week. Miss Mae WILSON of Mellard, Iowa, is visiting friends and relatives here this week. Elder J. W. GILLEN occupied the Saints' pulpit here Sunday at 11 a.m., and 7 p.m. Mr. J. MARTIN of Davis City was in the city Saturday on business. J. L. WARNER was in our city over Sunday. Miss BETHARDS of Woodland, and friend Miss Nettie ARNOLD were visiting with friends in this city the last of the week. Mr. OWENS shipped a car load of poultry to the Eastern market Thursday. Mr. JONES took a trip to Osceola Thursday. J. H. MCVAY had business in Missouri Thursday. We received a very pleasant shower Saturday night which was appreciated very much especially by those who hire their water.
