The Independent Patriot The fusion ticket nominated at Leon Tuesday is as follows: Representative, Robert MCCAUL, Garden Grove; Superintendent, Ezra MILLSAP, Decatur City; Treasurer, Harry VOGT, Leon; Sheriff, W. F. SHIELDS, Decatur City; Surveyor, Fred NIECE, Leon; Member of Board, John DALE, Grand River; Coroner, Dr. LOVETT, Pleasanton. The fusion of democrats, silver republicans and populists was made complete with the exception of a bolt of something like twenty-four populists, largely from Davis City and Lamoni, who objected to placing their candidates under the democratic name. The bolters held a special convention of their own after withdrawing, and decided to hold a regular county convention at Davis City on Saturday, August 14. Copied by Stacey McDowell Dietiker |
| The Davis City Advance, Davis City, Iowa Thursday, August 3l, l897 DRS. WHEELER and WAILES have dissolved partnership, DR. WHEELER remaining in the old office, and DR. WAILES may be found in Campbell & Halstead's office until his new office is finished, in the rear of the bank, after which his office entrance will be where the jewelry store now is. HENRY TURPIN went to Lamoni yesterday to help plaster the Old Folks' Home. U.S. Marshal Snow was in town yesterday looking for HANK ROBBINS, but he failed to find him. Dr. Wailes reports JAKE BURRELL's little daughter who had her collar bone broken one week ago last Monday, getting along nicely. B.A. NORMAN has been appointed P.M. at this place. E.W. TEALE was appointed to fill the unexpired term of F.J. ARNOLD and the term has expired. DIED: -- At 11:50 a.m. yesterday, MR. OLIVER J. BAILEY at his home in Davis City after a very brief illness. MR. BAILEY was an old and respected citizen. The funeral occurs today. MISS MAGGIE BOLON who has been visiting at Spring Valley and attending the Reunion at Lineville, returned Tuesday. She was accompanied by MISS HALLIE BARR who will visit a few days in our city. The circulating library will be opened in a few days in Davis City. This is a fine arrangement for good reading matter, and we are sure from a personal examination of the library, that all patrons will be pleased with it. Some of DR. WHEELER's friends have had an impression that he could not see to drive at night, or perform particular operations. He wishes this corrected, and that all should know that he is ready to attend calls at all hours; and perform any operation in his line. MR. JOHN VAN WINKLE and his sister MISS MAUD departed yesterday for Chariton where MISS MAUD was married to MR. ALFRED BURRELL last night. MISS MAUD is one of Davis City's promising young ladies and MR. BURRELL, who has lately obtained a position as brakeman on the C.B. & Q., is a young man of bright prospects. May peace and happiness follow them on their journey through life.
