RELIGIOUS HERITAGE DAY - Sunday, August 10, 1969 Sunday morning attend the Church of your choice in centennial attire. 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening - Open air union old time worship service at football field.
PREPARATION DAY - Monday, August 11, 1969 Dress Rehearsal for the spectacle. 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Square Dane on the Tennis Court in the park - spectators welcome.
AMERICAN HERITAGE DAY - PIONEER HOMECOMING Tuesday, August 12, 1969 10 a.m. Hobby display at the depot all day. 10 a.m. Northwestern Bell Telephone Display at the depot all day. Antique window displays in place, main street. W. A. Milburn historical display opens 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. 10 a.m. Horseshoe Tournament at City Park. Contact Roy Estle for entry. 10 a.m. Mary Reagon of the American Dairy Association will present a program at the Memorial Hall. 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Antique Display of farm and gardening tools and small hand tools at Fire Station. 3:30 p.m. "The Case for Mary Lincoln" by Mrs. Vern Killion, a graduate of MacPhail School of Music and Hamline University and a member of the Committee for the Kansas City Performing Arts Festival to be held in the Sanctuary of the Methodist Church. 4 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tours of the Northwestern Bell Telephone Building. These will continue the Balance of the week. 8 p.m. First performance of the Historical Spectacle. Presentation of the Queen and her Court. Barbershop Quartet and other pre-spectacle entertainment.
LADIES DAY - Wednesday, August 13, 1969 9:30 a.m. - Gwen Davis of Iowa Power & Light Co. will demonstrate a radar oven - door prizes. At Memorial Hall. 10:30 a.m. - Mrs. Phyllis Brackelsberg, Ames Extension Service and TV personality, will present a program on fabrics, patterns and sewing, at Memorial Hall. 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. - Dee Cees Home-makers Contest. Judging by Dr. Mary Pickett, Iowa State University. At Rhinehart Bldg. 1:00 p.m. - Celebration Belles Promenade on Main Street. 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. - Old Fashioned Garden Tea Party to be held in the southeast corner of City Park. (Ladies 16 years and up.) Style show in connection with the Tea Party presented by Madeline Shepherd. 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. - All permanent exhibits open. 4:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. - Northwestern Bell Tele- phone Tours. 8:00 p.m. - Historical Spectacle. |
YOUTH DAY - Thursday, August 14, 1969 10 a.m. - Pet Parade on Main Street. 1:00 p.m. - Leave school house for free swim at Adel. 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. - Marble contest, sack races, greased pig contest and watermelon eating contest. At Softball Field east of the school house. Evening - Teen Hop at School Gymnasium. Tommy T and the Federal Reserves. Tickets $1.50 plus tax. 8:00 p.m. Historical Spectacle. Steelman Rides and Carnival will open for three days. State Conservation Wildlife truck will be on display for three days.
AGRICULTURE DAY - Friday, August 15, 1969 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. - Old time farm equipment display from by-gone days to the present.. Steam thresher in operation each of Main Street. All permanent displays open at 10 a.m. every day. 1:00 p.m. - Pony Pull at the old football field east of the School House, Admission: Adults, 50¢, Children under 12, 25¢. 8:00 p.m. - Historical Spectacle.
DALLAS CENTER SALUTES THE FUTURE - Sunday, August 16, 1969 10 a.m. - Parade, floats, military exhibitions, Shrine units. West Des Moines Dixie Land Band, West Des Moines girls drill team, old time cars, helicopter and fun for all. Honoring of long-time citizens. 1:30 p.m. (tentative) - Speech by Gov. Ray from the grandstand on on main street. Burial of the time capsule by Gov. Ray immediately following speech. 3:00 p.m. - Lucky Number Bumper Sticker Drawing - $25. 3:00 p.m. - The SAC drill team and the West Des Moines Girl's Drill Team and the Shrine Units will perform at the football field. 8:00 p.m. - Final performance of the Historical Spectacle. Drawing for Mustang and Home Entertainment Center.
