Died, in Adel, Dallas Center, Iowa on the 26th ult., Mrs. CATHERINE NOEL, aged 36 years. The deceased was born in Augusta County, Virginia, and removed to Parks County, Indiana in 1837. In 1838 she was married to Mr COLEMAN NOEL. In 1842 she was baptized into the fellowship of the Baptist Church in Rockville, Iowa, by Rev David French; and in the spring of 1852, came to this city, and united with the Baptist Church of which she remained a worthy member until her death. She died suddenly, leaving an infant daughter and a large family to lament their irreparable loss. (Des Moines Iowa Citizen, 24 Mar 1858, p 3, c 6.)

A few days since, we were called upon to announce the death of Mrs Noel of Adel. Since then another member of the family has been called by death. The following announcement came to us from the stricken husband and father: Died, 23 Mar 1858, LAURA JANE NOEL, aged 25 days. (Des Moines Iowa Citizen, 31 Mar 1858, p 3, c 1.)

23 Apr 1859, Appointment of Constable Des Moines Township. Whereas JOHN HUNT did remove from the said County on the 11th day of April A D 1859, thereby creating a vacancy in the Office of Constable, therefore, JACOB E TOWNSEND was appointed to fill said vacancy and has qualified by giving bond and taking the oath of office as required by law. (Dallas County Supervisors Minute Book A, p 199.)

The store of Mr JOHN L BLUE was consumed by fire on Monday night of last week. The cause of the fire is not known, and it was not discovered until it had made such progress as to be beyond stoppage. The value of the stock was $5000, and was entirely consumed. It was owned by A Newton, Esq, of this city, and was insured for $5000 - $2500 in Phoenix of Brooklyn, and $2500 in the Excelsior of New York. The building belonged to Smith & Dodge, and was insured. An unoccupied building adjoining, belonging to J K NOKES, was also consumed. There was no wind at the time of the fire, or more serious damage would have been done. A New Post Office, styled Chicago, has been established 6 miles north of Adel, in Dallas County. There is a fine settlement in the vicinity; and we understand that any quantity of National Lecompton Democrats can be found for Post office purposes etc. A goodly number of Democrats from Highland County, Ohio live thereabouts. If they fight politically with the same courage in Iowa, that distinguished their chivalrous career in Highland, they are hard to beat. We used to run them under occasionally, but as often we had to surrender to their superior prowess. (Des Moines Iowa Citizen, 27 Oct 1858, p 3, c 2.)

Temperance Meeting, Adel, Dallas Co, Iowa, 4 Feb 1858. The citizens of Adel were called together last evening to hear a lecture given by JOEL DAVIS of Wiscotta on the subject of Temperance. . . As soon as Mr DAVIS had concluded his speech. . . N B NICHOLS was called to the chair and J BLUE appointed Secretary. A proposition was offered by JOEL DAVIS, to organize a County Temperance Society at Adel, on Friday the 12th inst., at one o'clock p.m., which was carried. The chairman appointed the following Committee to form a Constitution and By-laws: JOEL DAVIS, COEL NOEL, PETER RUSSELL. Committee of Vigilance: M B MALSBY, of Wiscotta; Mr GERARD, of Adel, ID MARSH, of Adel; H THORNBURG, of Dallas Township; GRISWELL, of Boone Township; ROBINS, of Des Moines Township; Mrs RACHEL FRUSH, of Adel.
