Funeral Service Held Sunday from Family Home, Elders Chambers and Butterworth Officiating.
Deloit, Jan. 11 - Special to the Review - Mrs. Melissa L. Jordan died at her home in Deloit on January 7th at the age of 77 years, 7 months and 18 days, following a prolonged illness which was brought about by the infirmities of old age. Aunt Melissa has been a resident of Deloit for a great many years and is one of the old settlers of Crawford county, loved and admired by a host of acquaintances. While she has been a sufferer for several years and confined to her home, she was cheerful throughout and received the loving care of her children who did everything possible for her comfort during her declining years. The fact that her son, Mr. M. E. Myers, who resided near her, was constantly in attendance, was a source of great satisfaction to her.
Melissa L. Donaldson was born on May 20, 1838 in Ceyuga county, Ohio and came with her parents to Iowa in the spring of 1846. In the spring of 1855 she was united in marriage to Mr. William G. Myers and to this union five sons were born, namely: A. G. Myers, of Denison; W. W. Myers of Lamoni; M. E. Myers of this place, J. G. Myers of Aitkin, Minn. and C. T. Myers, of Laurel, Neb. Her husband, William G. Myers, departed this life on the 22nd day of December, 1864. On the 17th day of June, 1865 Mrs. Myers was married to James Jordan and this union was blessed with eight children, namely: Olive E. Lentz, decreased; James S., deceased; J. A. Jordan of Long Pine, Neb; B. A. Jordan, of Dixon, Neb.; John A. Jordan, deceased; Clara and Clarence, deceased; and Mrs. A. M. Justice of Dixon, Neb. Besides these children she leaves thirty-one grandchildren and eight great grandchildren to mourn her death. At the age of thirty she united with the Baptist church and remained a faithful worker until 1862 when she affiliated with the Latter Day Saints church, of which she was a member up until the time of her death. Aunt Melinda will be missed by her many friends, not only in Deloit, but over the entire county.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Elder D. R. Chambers of Magnolia and Elder C. E. Butterworth having charge of the services, which were held at the family home. All of her children were present at the funeral except one son, J. G. Myers, who resides in Minnesota. The funeral was largely attended by friends and relatives who gathered to pay their last tribute to this estimable woman. The remains were laid to rest in the little cemetery adjoining Deloit. The pall bearers were C. W. Winey, E. R. Patchin, F. A. True, C. J. Cose, F. J. Brogden and S. Horr.

Resident of Crawford county, passed away at her home at Ashland, Ore., on Monday, January 3rd, at the age of 63 years, 11 months, and 4 days. Mrs. Woolsencroft contracted a severe case of the grippe and it was this which caused her death. The remains were shipped to Denison by express and reached here this morning. Funeral services will be held at the Methodist church at Deloit on Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, Rev. Ralston, the pastor, officiating. Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Woolsencroft left Crawford county several years ago and purchased a home at Ashland, believing that the climate there would be of benefit to them. Mr. Woolsencroft died there a few years ago and his remains were brought to Crawford county for burial. At the time of going to press we were unable to secure the life history of Mrs. Woolsencroft.

*Medical Skill of No Avail
*Miss Ruth Childress, Thirteen Year Old Daughter of Mrs. Charles Childress Passes Away
*Born in June of Year 1903
*Funeral Held at Methodist Church in Deloit and Was Very Largely Attended by Sorrowing Friends.
*Deloit, Feb. 1 - (Special to the Review) - Many hearts were saddened in our little city on last Wednesday, January 26th, when the news of the death of Ruth Childress was learned, she having passed away at the home of her mother near Deloit in the afternoon.
Ruth Jane Childress was born in June, 1903, and died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 1916, at the age of 13 years and almost 8 months. Ruth was the daughter of Charles and Leilah Childress, her father having preceded her to the great beyond about five years ago. She was the second daughter, a very bright and intelligent young girl of kind and loving disposition, which won the love and admiration of all who knew her. She united with the Methodist church in the year 1913 and remained a christian until her death. She had been ill for the past year and was taken to a sanitarium last fall with the hopes of finding relief and regaining her health. Medical skill, however, seemed to avail nothing and the little girl was brought home, where she has since been attended by the home physician and tenderly cared for by her loving mother and relatives. She was always delighted to visit with her schoolmates and friends who called frequently to see her. Although missed on earth, heaven is richer by her presence there.
She leaves to mourn her loss, her mother, two sisters, Alma and Arlene, one brother, Charles, grandparents and many other relatives and friends.
The funeral services were conducted at the Methodist Episcopal church, Rev. Ralston having charge, and the house was packed with relatives and friends who came to pay their last respects to little Ruth. Interment was made in the Deloit cemetery. Six girl friends, who acted as flower girls and preceded the casket with bouquets of beautiful flowers which they laid upon the casket were Ruth McKim, Susie Hattery, Mabel Johnson, Leta Wescott, Ruby Cose and Edith Darling. The pall bearers were also schoolmates, including Harlo Mason, Maurice Spence, Nicolas Moeller, Wayne and Clyde Cose and Floyd Darling.
The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the sorrowing relatives.

*Pneumonia Causes Death
*Mrs. A. True, Mother of the True boys of Deloit, Contracts Disease from which she Does Not Recover
*Deloit, Ia. March 21st (special to the Review). Mrs. A. True, mother of the True boys of the True Mercantile Company, passed away here Monday afternoon, March 19th, at 9 o'clock. Seemingly she had been enjoying her usual good health and on the Sunday previous in company with her son Fred, had visited at the Martin home, and after dinner walked around town. On Monday she was taken ill and it was found that she had contracted a bad case of pneumonia. A trained nurse was secured and everything possible done to check the trouble, but on account of her advance age she was too frail to withstand the disease. Mrs. True came from Spokane, Washington last August where, for ten years, she had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Pettichord. Since coming to Deloit, she has been making her home with her son Fred. She leaves to mourn her death, four sons and four daughters. During her residence in Deloit she has made many warm friends and her sudden death cast a deep gloom over the entire community. The remains were taken to Avoca, Ia. Tuesday, where interment will be made beside the grave of her husband, who served in the civil war. Her daughters, Minnie, of Spokane, and Maggie of Seattle, will be in attendance at the funeral at Avoca, together with the two sons who reside here in Deloit.

*Thunder Hawk, S. D., April 20th
Dear Review:
As so many of our friends wished to hear from us, I take the opportunity of writing to our dear paper. We left home April 20th, after bidding many of our friends goodbye, for a trip to South Dakota and Montana, going by the way of Bronson, Iowa, to visit a few days at the homes of relatives, James and Martin Horr. The afternoon of our departure was very rainy. Goose Lake was full of ducks that flew up and lighted elsewhere as the train was passing
. We were met at the depot by James Horr, who conveyed us in his auto to his pleasant home. Saturday evening after supper, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Horr and I autoed to Sioux City, a distance of 15 miles, where we did some trading. From Morningside we have paved streets for five miles to the city. The street cars and autos compel one to be on the lookout constantly in driving a car. We got back at 11 p.m.
On Sunday we partook of a lovely Easter dinner prepared by Miss Carrie Patton and Mrs. M. A. Horr at James Horr's home and in the afternoon we autoed to Graceland cemetery at Morningside, where Mrs. James Horr is buried. This is a lovely cemetery and kept up in fine condition. We left Bronson Monday afternoon, going by auto in company with James Horr and Mrs. M. A. Horr and spent a short time around the city. At 7 p.m. we took the Milwaukee train and went right into the sleeping car, where we spent a comfortable night and got up greatly rested just as we reached Aberdeen. We did not have to change cars there as usual and went on to McIntosh, where we left the flyer for a local train as the flyer did not stop at Thunder Hawk, our destination which was about the fourth station from McIntosh.
The first afternoon al along the way coming to Bronson some fields of small grain were up and in other fields men were out working in the rain. Tuesday morning we had reached the level country of Dakota, where one could see as far as the eye could reach. We missed the hills and the trees and the splendid scenery of good old Iowa. It is tiresome to my eyes to look over that level country. After we crossed the Missouri River at Mobridge, passing through the Indian reservation, there were small houses, but very little land under cultivation until we drew near to McIntosh. In and around Thunder Hawk and Lemon there are large fields and a great deal of stock raising.
The farmers are busy getting their small grain in. The spring is at least two weeks later than at home, but the farmers are prospering and all seem happy and contented. We are both feeling well and enjoying our visit.
With love to all. Mr. and Mrs. S. Horr

*Mrs. E. D. Albright, a resident of Crawford county for a great many years, died at her home near Lemmon, S. D. after a lingering illness extending over five years on June 28, 1916.
Elizabeth H. Crouch was born near Olean, Ripley County, Indiana, in 1851, being at the time of her death 64 years, 2 months and 22 days old. She in infancy moved with her father's family to Clinton county, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood.
Jan. 4, 1874, she was united in marriage to E. D. Albright and moved to a farm near Deloit, Iowa, where the greater part of her life was spent until twelve years ago when she with her husband and family moved to their homestead near Lemmon.
While living at Deloit she joined the M. B. A. order and carried a paidup policy in the same. Many are the friends and neighbors living at Deloit who will revere her memory.
Mrs. Albright leaves her husband and one sister, Mrs. N. N. Stallcop of Oakes, Minn., one son, four daughters and eight grandchildren, together with a host of friends to mourn her loss.
The children are as follows: Mrs. I. A. Goff, of Hay Springs, Neb., Mrs. Clarence Brogden of Laurel, Neb., and L. C. Albright, Mrs. John Kuale and Mrs. Vida Winans of Lemmon, S. D.
She was a loving wife and kind mother, a good neighbor and friend to all and the deep loss is felt by the family and entire community and the sympathy of all goes out to the bereaved ones in their hour of sorrow. Her sister, Mrs. Stallcop had been with her for several months, assisting and caring for her with untiring efforts. Although she was very bad, her death came suddenly due to heart failure. The farm belongs to Lloyd Winans, and the buildings are inside the corporate limits of Deloit. The house is practically new, two and one-half stories high, all hardwood finish and is indeed a very fine home. All the outbuildings are in good shape and are of ample size. In the ad may be seen a picture of the buildings, showing the commanding view to be had from the house. This picture was taken especially to be used in advertising the sale and is an idea that should be followed by others who contemplate holding sales. Mr. Winans will also sell his fine herd of Poland China hogs at this sale. This herd is pedigreed and papers will be furnished on day of sale. Malone Bros. are the auctioneers and the Crawford County State bank will clerk the sale.

*Born in Deloit, Dies in Dakota
*William McKim, Well Known in Crawford, Dies at Thunder Hawk, S. D. August 16
*Appendicitis Cause of Death
*Deceased was Fifty-Six Years Old and Unmarried, Lived with Brother, George
*The Review is in receipt of a letter from Mrs. S. Horr of Deloit, who has been spending the past few months in Thunder Hawk, S. D., telling of the death of Mr. William Martin McKim, who died at his home near Thunder Hawk, August 16, 1916. The parents of the deceased were William and Almedia McKim, who were among the pioneer settlers of Crawford county and who will be remembered by a very large number of people in Crawford county. Mr. McKim had been in poor health for several months, but the immediate cause of his death was a serious case of appendicitis, with which he was taken ill but a few days before his death.
The deceased was born April 4, 1860, at Deloit, Ia., and was fifty-six years, four months, twelve days old at the time of his death. He was unmarried and resided with his brother, George and family, with whom he has been a partner in business for several years. They moved from Wisconsin to Perkins county, S. D. nearly ten years ago. By his kind acts and loving deeds, he had won the esteem of all who knew him and he was a special favorite with his nieces and nephews as a reward for the love and interest which he manifested on their behalf.
He leaves to mourn his demise, his parents, William and Almedia McKim of Thunder Hawk, seven brothers and five sisters, namely: Frank of Ida Grove, Albert of Deloit, George, Walter, Claude, John and Robert, all of Thunder Hawk, Miss Abbie McKim of Thunder Hawk, Mrs. Blanche Mennis of Kansas City, Mrs. Oliver Pitcher of Zion City, Ill; Mrs. Bessie Hansen of Los Angeles, Cal.; and Mrs. Maud Pulaski of Washington, D. C. Two sisters and one brother died in infancy. A few days before his death, Mr. McKim enjoyed a visit from his brother, Albert, who arrived at his home in time to spend a few pleasant days with his brother. Funeral services were held at the home in Thunder Hawk, on Friday, August 18, Elder Bishop preaching the sermon and the remains were tenderly laid to rest in the Lemmon cemetery.

*Deloit Hits Better than 300
*First Day Wins Dow City, Second With Ute, Third With Carroll - Deloit Outguesses Bunch
*Deloit - Sept. 18 - Special to the Review
*The baseball season for the fast Deloit team came to a fitting close when they walked away with the series at the tournament held here last week. The attendance at the baseball tournament was not up to expectations, which without questions was due to the fact that the weather was anything but favorable, but nevertheless the games were enjoyed by many fans from this and surrounding places.
The first day Dow City was on hand, confident of winning, but they were sent back down the Boyer valley to their home town with a defeat of 4 to 3 checked up to the debit side of their ledger. The batteries for this game were Hansen, Wilson and Cole for Dow City and Furchner and Donovan for Deloit. The feature of this game was the hitting by Patrick who never failed to land on the sphere at the critical moment.
On the second day of the tournament the Ute Warriors gathered about the camp and with big chief Freeman of Schleswig, hoped to pull off a real massacre, for he has a reputation of being some slab man. The Warriors were doomed to disappointment, however, for they were let down by Deloit to a 4 to 1 defeat and it was a sad bunch of Indians that wound their way back to their camp at Ute that evening. Leo Collins, of Denison, who played with Deloit, scored three out of the four runs. The batteries for this game were Freeman and McGraw for Ute and Himpley and Probs for Deloit.
The third and last game was a hummer, the fast Carroll team, fresh from a string of victories, came over to Deloit, loaded for bear; in fact they had four outside men besides their old salaried team with Hansen of the Joe Smiths of Council Bluffs, doing the slab work for them. The battle between the pitches was about equal, but the Deloit boys outguessed the Carroll players when with one out Patrick cracked out a screaming two bagger down the third base line and McGrath, who followed, dumped a pretty bunt down the third base line, scoring Patrick from second base. This was enough to win for the game ended 1 to 0 in favor of Deloit. Deloit has made a wonderful record this season, having won 23 out of 39 games played. Six members of the Deloit team who batted over 300 are as follows: Donovan - 529, McGrath - 387, Kelley - 379, Foster - 345, Preibs - 330, Patrick - 328

LEAVE DELOIT AFTER 50 YEARS
*Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Horr to Locate Permanently on Farm Near Glen, Minn.
*Review Writer Twenty Years
*Brief but Interesting Letter From Mrs. Horr in Which She Bids Farewell to Friends
Glen, Minn. Nov. 17, 196
*Editor Review: We arrived at Glen, Minn., November 2nd, where we have been enjoying a nice visit at the pleasant home of our cousins, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Goff, and where we have had land interests for several years. The many lakes, with the clear crystal water and the abundance of timber looks good to us. We have decided to locate on our land and move here as soon as possible and sell our home in Deloit, which has been our home for fifty years, and for more than twenty years I acted as correspondent for the Review. And I wish to thank the readers of the Deloit items for their support, which I appreciated greatly. I tried to be loyal to all in the general news, weddings and obituaries as far as I was able to obtain the items. Where I made mistakes I beg pardon. We were in the Deloit post office for eleven and a half years, with other business interests and thereby made a wide acquaintance. I served as notary public thirteen years and hope I have contributed something toward the best interests of Deloit and vicinity. I have a great many friends there that I hate to leave; some old people that I should have loved to comfort in their old age. But my health and that of my husband is so much better here. I think the change of climate is best for us And to my dear old friends, I will say, although absent from you, you will ever be held dear in my memory. With love and best regards to all and the success and best wishes for the Review.
Mrs. S. Horr
Ex-Correspondent in the Review
P.S. Mr. and Mrs. John Goff and my husband and I visited last Sunday, the 12th at the home of Mr. and Mrs. S. F. Wedlock, formerly of Deloit, on Lone Lake. A pleasant home on a splendid lake. Mr. and Mrs. Jay Myers visited with us there also. We can have quite a gathering of Crawford county people for a picnic next summer. Mrs. Horr
