Obituary: Wohrley
Rosa Bristle Wohrley was born at Schramburg, Germany, July 22, 1864; died at
her home near Morrison, Ill., April 30, 1935; aged 71 y. 9 m. 9 d. She came to
America in 1883 and since that time has lived in Whiteside Co., Ill. Two years
after coming here she was united in marriage to John Wohrley, who preceded her
in death 12 years ago. To this union were born 9 children (Fred and Mrs. Clara
Lenson (deceased); Mrs. May Bettle of Rockford, Ill.; Mrs. Lena Hankey, Mrs.
Elizabeth Pope, Louis, John, Lee, and Floyd, all of Morrison, together with 16
grandchildrn, who are left to mourn the departure of a kind and loving mother
and grandmother. Sister Wohrley lived on the home place for more than forty
years. She was baptized and united with the Mennonite Church on Nov. 18, 1893,
to which faith she has been loyal. Whenever health permitted she was present
at church services, often making sacrifices to be present. She took an active
interest in the affairs of her church and always enjoyed the fellowship of
God's people. She was a sufferer from internal cancer for some time, and at
times had severe pain, but was always patient, and expressed a desire to leave
this world for a better place where no pain or sorrow can ever come. Our
departed sister will be missed in her home, her church, and in the community,
but we bow to the will of a loving Heavenly Father who doeth all things well,
trusting that our loss is her eternal gain. Funeral services were held from
the Morrison Mennonite church Friday, May 3, at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by
Bro. J.Kore Zook. Text, John 11:25,26. Interment in the cemetery adjoining the

Came to the United States on the German Steam Ship Hermann and arrived in the
port of Baltimore. He traveled with his sister Rosine but they have her listed
as his wife. His age is listed at 26 and hers 21.
Have post card of Schiltach, given by Ester Shepherd Brooks.
Copy of military papers (written in German). The 2nd Escadron of the Dragonian
(special type of riding soldier doing duty like police) Regiment 25 called
"Queen Olga Regiment". He entered on 07 Sep 1876 as a volunteer and retired as
a soldier of the reserve on 26 Sep 1879. He was a first class shooter with the
gun. Took oath 08 Sep. 1876 He was 5 foot 7 inches and slim build. Dark blond
hair, round chin, inconspicuous mouth and nose. He had no facial hair. Born in
Reichenbaechle, belonging to Hauterbach near Oberndorf. His profession was "pferdebauer"
meaning he does farming with his horses. Unnamed parents still in village
working as farmers.
Per family legend he owned a boarding house in town and a farm outside of town
(this farm was his wife's from her parents and rest of Feldman children were
owners also)
He is also to have traveled back home several times to bring other family here

about Schiltach. He is a brother of Isaak Wöhrle & Phillip Wöhrle.

The Reichenbächle Andres (Andreas), Gütler from the thorn-field. A unique
person of his time period.
A Gütler is a person who owns a small farmhouse.
He lived in one, located on the Dornacker - overlooking the Reichenbächle
valley. The house still does exist. But because it is difficult to access and
a bit lonely located, it is now used as a holiday home

Sharon. She died at 5:50 p.m. Thursday (2-13-97) in the hospital of Sharon
Regional Health System. She was 79. Mrs Bailey was born April 15, 1917, in
Erie, Ill, to Daniel L. and Etha M. Wohrley Charles. A 1936 graduate of Sharon
Hight School, she was last employed by Imperial Cleaners, Sharon. She
previousley was a beautician with Fitzpatrick Beauty Shop, Sharon. She married
Nelson Edard Bailey Sept. 28, 1940. She was a former member of the Hermitage
Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. She was a member of First Baptist Church,
Sharon. Surviving besides her husband are: two daughters, Mrs. David (Nancy)
Taylor, Sharon; and Mrs. Robert (Janice) Hart II, Fayetteville, NC; two sons,
