Izaac Steffey Brought Here for Burial Friday
Izaac Steffey of Clinton passed away Wednesday, Oct 29, at Jane Lamb hospital following a stroke of paralysis.
Mr. Steffey was bron in Pennsylvania, August 28, 1854, and leaves to mourn his passing his wife, three sons and five daughters, namely, William and Howard of Maquoketa. George of Charlotte, Mrs. R. Tracey and Mrs. Oscar Brown of Maquoketa. Mrs. Irvin Tracy of Miles, Mrs. Sam Leslie and Mrs. Chas. Warren of Clinton.
Mr. and Mrs. Steffey were residents here for years but had recently made their home with their daughter, Mrs. Chas. Warner in Clinton.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon from the Buchner chapel with burial at Bridgeport.

Mrs. Win. Steffey Passes Away Friday Morning at Iowa City Following an operation.
Mrs. William Steffey passed away Friday morning, February 1, at the University hospital in Iowa City, where she had gone ten days previous, for a surgical operation.
Susie Lenette Tracy was born on April 17, 1890, at Nashville, Iowa, and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Tracy.
On May 18, 1907, she was united in marriage to William Steffey, who survives. Three small children, Joseph William, Ely Isaac and Carletta Marian are left to mourn the loss of a mother's loving care, also the mother, Mrs. N. Tracy, three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Neva Miller of Maquoketa, Mrs. Ula Stowers of Peoria, Miss Elsie at home and Robert and Erwin of Maquoketa.
The father three sisters and one brother preceded her in death. Mrs. Steffey had submitted to an operation and was thought to be improving until word reached here on Friday morning that she had suffered a relapse and she passed away before any of the relatives could reach her bedside.
The body arrived here Saturday evening accompanied by her husband, and the services were held yesterday afternoon at two o'clock from the Buchner chapel. Rev. J.J. Kidder had charge of the services. Interment was made in Mt. Hope cemetery.

Joseph W. Steffey, 75, of Maquoketa died Wednesday, March 28, at Jackson County Public Hospital. His remains were cremated and burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery. Carson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Steffey was born May 30, 1908 in Maquoketa to William and Susie Tracy Steffey. He was in the United States Merchant Marines.
He is survived by a sister, Claretta Swam of Los Angeles, Calif., a brother, Eli of Maquoketa.
His wife, Helen, and his parents preceded him in death.

Last Rites Held for Irvin Tracy
Irvin A. Tracy, 76, Monmouth farmer, died last Tuesday evening in the Jackson
County Public hospital. Funeral was held Saturday at 12:45 p.m. in the Carson funeral home with burial in Mr. Hope cemetery.
He was born Mar. 25, 1882, in Jackson county, son of Nathan and Arilla Green Tracy. On Feb. 1, 1905, he married Anna Steffey, who survives.
In addition to his widow, he is survived by a son, Lloyd of Monmouth, six daughters, Thelma Brundage of Victoria, Tex., Gladys Clark of Valley Springs, Calif., Mrs. Delbert Brundage of Baraboo, Wisc., Mrs. Alvin Jensen of LaMotte, Mrs. Fay Olivine, Emeline, and Mrs. Gary Schmidt of Monticello and 21 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
His parents, a son and a daughter preceded him in death.

Mr. Steffey was born Jan. 27, 1892, in Lisbon, the son of Isaac and Eveline Burnett Steffey. He married Nellie Mae Sanger June 23, 1920. He was a retired farmer and World War I veteran.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Mrs. Myron (Elsie) Chase of Monmouth; two stepsons, Walter Brundage of Harrah, Okla., and Delbert Brundage of Maquoketa; two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Burket of Camanche and Mrs. Jessie Varney of Clinton; and a brother, William Steffey of Maquoketa.

CLINTON, Iowa -- Services for Jessie Varney, 89, will be 10:30 a,m. Thursday at Clinton Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will be in Clinton Memorial Park.

Mrs. Varney died Monday at Samaritan Hospital South, Clinton.
Jessie Steffey married Charles Varney in 1924 in Maquoketa. He died in 1972. She was honored by Gov. Terry Branstad at the Iowa Hall of Fame awards luncheon in 1990. She also was one of five lowan admitted to the Volunteer Hall of Fame.
Mrs. Varney was active with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program for more than 18 years. She had worked at meal sites, planted flowers, worked in schools teaching sewing and visited nursing homes. She. also helped with walk-athons, clerical duties and rides to doctor and dentist appointments.
Mrs. Varney also a member of Democratic Party, Royal Neighbors of America and Riverview Senior Citizen Club and was active in horticulture program of Clinton Woman's Club. She had attended Riverside Presbyterian Church Clinton.
Memorials may be made to the family.

CHARLES VARNEY:
Charles Varney, Ex-Legislator
Clinton, Iowa--Former State Rep. Charles G. Varney, 68, Clinton, was pronounced dead Thursday on arrival at Mercy Hospital, Clinton.
He was taken by city ambulance from his home at 432 11th Ave. S., where officials said he suffered an apparent heart attack shortly before 1 p.m.
The body is at Shadduck-Cannon Funeral Home, Clinton. Visitation will begin tonight at the funeral home.
Mr. Varney was elected to the Iowa House of Representatives in 1964 and served one term. He was one of the few Democrats ever to serve in the Iowa House from Clinton County.
Mr. Varney was employed by Clinton Corn Processing Co. until he retired in 1968. He was active in Democratic party politics and served as precinct committeeman, a member of the party central committee, and vice president of the Committee on Political Education in the 2nd Congressional District. He also was active in labor union affairs.
After he retired at Clinton Corn, Varney became an outreach worker for Clinton-Jackson Community Action, later merged with Iowa East Central TRAIN of Davenport. He held that post at the time of his death.
He was born at Clinton, spent his boyhood in a cabin at Beaver Island, where the family lived. He attended Bry School, Clinton, and frequently joked that his schooling ended at fourth grade, although his education did not.
He married Jessie Merle Steffey at Clinton in 1926. He served 4 1/2 years in the Iowa National Guard.
Among the survivors are his wife and a son, Donald, Clinton.

Irene Green married Floyd Tracy in 1917 in Maquoketa. He died in 1945. She married Howard Prusia in 1949 in Maquoketa. He died in 1970.

Gladys V. Clark, 87, of Maquoketa died Sunday morning, Jan. 12, 1997 at the Jackson County Public Hospital in Maquoketa.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14, from the Carson & Son Funeral Home in Maquoketa with Diaconal Ruth Ann Scott of St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Dubuque officiating. Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. . on Monday at the Carson & Son Funeral Home. Burial was in the Streets Cemetery, rural Maquoketa.
Mr. Clark was born on Aug. 4, 1909 in Delmar to Irvin and Anna Steffy Tracy. She married James Leroy Clark on Sept. 7, 1927 in Maquoketa. He preceded her in death on April 26, 1953. Mrs. Clark was a homemaker most of her life. She also worked as a cook for the Maquoketa Headstart Program for many years and was a bookkeeper at the Jackson County Public Hospital for several years. She was a member of the first GED class to graduate from Maquoketa Community High School in 1972.
Mrs. Clark is survived by four sons, Jim (and Madonna) of Maquoketa, Wayne of Fulton, Ronald (and Nancy) of San Andreas, Calif., and Harold of Sierra Vista, Calif.; three daughters, Judy (Mrs. Robert) Portz of Bellevue, Donn Ann (Mrs. Wesley Portz of Cedar Rapids, and Anna Adam of Maquoketa; four sisters, Vera Brundage and Maxine Schmidt of Monticello, Dorothy Smith of Bellevue, and Olivine Lillie of High Point, North Carolina; 22 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. Mr. Clark was born Nov. 5, 1902 at Emeline to Richard and Pearl Edwards Clark. He was married Sep. 7, 1927 to Gladys Tracy, who survives.

Ruth H. Jansen, 78, of 2715 S. 18th St., died Wednesday in Samaritan North Hospital.

She was born May 29, 1920, in Iowa City, to Oscar and Sophia Green Tracy. She married Irvin H. Jansen, April 14, 1937, in Mount Pleasant. He died Jan. 12, 1974.
She had been employed for 25 years with Dairy Park in Clinton, retiring in 1975.
She was a member of the Methodist faith and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Survivors include two daughters, Rita Newsom of Clinton, and Mrs. Anita (Charles) Loiacona of Martinez, Ga.; two sons, Roger Il Jansen of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Russell I. Jansen of Clinton; 22 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Hilda (Glen) Jepsen of Bellevue, and Mrs. Marcella (Birgil) Chase of Maquoketa; a brother, Robert I. Tracy of Clinton; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, a sister and two great-grandchildren.

Tommy R. Dague, 52, of Maquoketa, died Thursday morning, Oct. 7, 1999 at his home in Maquoketa.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Monday, Oct. 11, at the Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa.
Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 10, at the funeral home in Maquoketa.
Burial was in the Pence Cemetery, rural Maquoketa.
Mr. Dague was born on Oct. 19, 1946 in Lost Nation, to Gerald D. and Hilda Tracy Dague Jepsen.
He was it 1966 graduate of the Maquoketa High School.
Mr. Dague then joined the Army serving in VietNam from 1966-1968 as a Armor Intel Specialist. During his military service he received various medals including a Bronze star and 2 Purple Hearts. He married Judy Manning on Dec. 30, 1978 in Davenport.
He was employed at International Harvester in Davenport and lived in the Quad City area for 15 years until he relocated to the Maquoketa area.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and he was a avid hunter and fisherman, and he also, enjoyed raising horses and playing pool.
Mr. Dague was a member of the Maquoketa American Legion Post #75, the Disabled American Vets and the American Paint Horse Assocication both of Davenport.
He is survived by his wife, two sons, Thomas and Robert both of Maquoketa, his parents Glen and Hilda (Tracy Dague) Jepsen of Sabula, one brother, Dale A. Dague of Lost Nation.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, father, Gerald Dague, an infant son and one sister, Geraldine (Mrs. Kermit) Bodenhofer

He was born March 3, 1931, in Charlotte, to Vilas F. and Velma F. Leslie Brown. He married Phyllis Jacobs, May 5, 1951. She died Oct. 3, 1975. He then married Bernice Breed, Aug. 14, 1976, in Apple River, Ill.
He served in the United States Army, stationed in Germany, during the Korean Conflict.
He farmed in the Massbach area for many years. He later worked with the Natural Resources Conservation Service office in Elizabeth for more than 20 years. He had been a NRCS "Earth Team" volunteer. He also assisted the JoDaviess Soil and Water Conservation District in its tree program for 19 years.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Massbach, Ill., Apple River Masonic Lodge, of Hanover VFW, of Apple River Lions Club, and the Northwest Illinois Forestry Association.
