Notes for REUBEN LATHERS:
Reuben , known as Bob, was born
on the farm , which later became the Dearborn Drive-In Theater. When he was
about twenty, he moved to Chicago and spent some time on the road as a salesman
for a custom clothing firm. He was also a cutter in the tailoring department of
Marshall Field and Company. For some time, around 1911-12, he was a salesman for
the Bunday-Haggen Ford Agency in Cleveland. This, of course was when automobiles
were more or less in their infancy. He also owned a haberdashery store on
Michigan Ave in Detroit and during the depression of the 1930's sold cars at a
used-car lot on Livernois.
Reuben was a pleasant and
amiable man of quiet disposition. He was fond of reading , perhaps, his main
hobby. Both Reuben and Lola Hunt, a nurse, were interested in the theater and attended the legitimate theater and
hardly missed a Shakespearean performance. A member of Kilwinning Lodge, with a 32 degree, he is buried at Newburgh.
