Note! For many years there were two separate A.O.U.W. organizations in Elkader. The following article explains why: May End the War - Peace Plans in Iowa Point to Cessation of Twenty Years of Hostilities in A.O.U.W. Orders Iowa Falls, Ia., Jan. 19 - After being at war for
twenty years, members of the United Workmen in Iowa, as
well as members of other fraternal insurance orders over
the state, will watch with much interest the movement
just taken to reunite the Ancient Order of United Workmen
and the Iowa Workmen, two branches of an order that have
been at war since the Iowa Workmen seceded in 1884. Notes added by S. Ferrall: |
