There may be as many as twelve burials in this cemetery. The Clayton county Pioneer Cemetery Commission restored the Walton cemetery in 2009 and a sign was erected.

Notes:
James McGregor's burial site in what is known as Buell Park cemetery, on the school grounds, is but a short stone's throw from where the gravestones were found.
On the 1850 census in Monona twp. are Johnathan J. Walton, age 46, farmer, b. KY; his wife Nancy, age 39, b. KY; and their children Franklin, Louisa, Mary, John & James. Johnathan's middle initial is 'wrong' for the gravestone, but errors on the census are common. A family tree on Ancestry. com gives her maiden name as Elliott, and states that Johnathan was her 2nd husband.
The 1856 Iowa State census indicates Nancy is a widow. The eldest son is enumerated as Benjamin F. rather than Franklin (1850 census), the youngest son James is no longer in the household. All have been in the state 6 years.
By the time of the 1860 census, Nancy Walton has moved to Cass co. Iowa and is age 50. Her eldest child, Frank is now the HOH. Louisa, Mary & John are still with her. The Iowa Cemetery records for Cass co. list a burial for Nancy A. Walton, died Aug. 26, 1863.
Anyone with information about Adolphis' identity please contact the Clayton co. coordinator. Below are a couple possibilities for the Adolphis' surname.
1) The 3rd letter of the surname on the gravestone looks like it could be a 'Y'....... MAY. On the 1850 census, the neighboring family is William & Mary Davis with their children. They have an 8 year old Catharine May living with them. Coincidence? During that era, many children were orphaned and often lived with other families, some related others not. Perhaps the broken gravestone is that of Adolphus May?
2) On the 1850 census is a 10 year old Adolphus Peyon, born in WI, also in Monona twp. He is in the household of John & Angelica Fulsom (age 25). Angelica is also b. in WI so Adolphus could be her younger brother, but that's just a guess. John Fulsom is listed as a 'ferryman'. The Fulsom's are family #673 (enumerated 8/24/1850, census pg 178) and Johnathan Wolton family #699 (enumerated 8/27/1850, census pg 180) ...... not exactly neighbors, but living fairly close to one another. Perhaps the broken gravestone is that of Adolphus Peyon?Credits:
